Rooms to me is a must along with Death/Darkness. Even if you’re not metal the Death and Darkness packs are just great  extensive kits… all around solid

Rooms – best ambience and unique kits. Extremely well done and recorded. Possible the best recording to date  imho

I have others too. Bob Rock orc etc. All are great depending on your “goals”.

so knowing what I know now, which isn’t much, Rooms and DD would be a must have to start. IMO.

Thanks Digital – I’m waiting to see how Eddie Kramer’s History of Rock package comes out but if that’s a disappointment then Bob Rock’s library is definitely an option.

    Score so far:

    Rooms/Decades/D&D 1

    Hey James,

you might want to take a look at dontcrack.com. They have prices on all of the SDX’s that are better than just about anywhere else.

Wow Jeff some of the older SDX are reduced on that site as well – almost as cheap as the EZX expansions

Out of everything, Death and Darkness is my fav, and the one I use for just about everything, its that good. Much prefer it to Decades and Rooms.

Now! Let me say Im not a great drummer, I only do it for fun and enjoyment and for my music productions. So be kind to me

I just thought id share some drumming videos I put together to show how much I like the Death and Darkness SDX.

In fact just about all the videos use it, and there is a mixed array of song.

    Its the Death Black Kit:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/Whagi11/videos

I just love the sound of the kit out of all my SDXs

Im not saying it fits into everything pert, but I like it.

    Thanks.

P.S. Sorry for the legs and running shorts, I grab time after a run and before a shower. lol 🙂

I have Progressive and Metal Foundry which I got on sale and D&D which was not on sale.

Hands down D&D is my favourite and would be my choice if I only had one SDX option. I really love the sound of darkness (in the pool). I am also a drummer with 3 rack and 2 floor tom pads so this SDX suits my set up perfectly. I have been able to tailor SD3 core library and the other SDX’s I have to get 5 toms (with a bit of tom tuning where 5 options don’t exist) but not as good as having 5 toms.

If you take the time to learn how to alter the sounds (bleed, ambience, effects processing, parallel compression/reverb, tuning, envelopes/offset etc), you can actually get pretty good results with any starting point in either SD3 or SDX and the options are huge – You could spend forever exploring the opportunities. But the SDX’s do add that extra flavour to suit specific genre’s.

The lack of 5 tom options is the main thing stopping me from getting other SDX’s as I am so used to playing with 5 toms.

I would like to see Toontrack always having 5 toms where possible to suit drummers with larger (but not excessive) kits.

    I am on 3.2.0 (not 3.1.7)

Thanks ondipayn – sounds like everyone thinks that D&D is the starting point for new users. I’ve been waiting to see what Eddie Kramer’s set comes out like but in the meantime I’ve been reviewing a lot of the You Tube videos about D&D and they all just say the same thing.

I’m just checking out Mike Luke’s review to get a feel for it but already itching to get my credit card out!

Have a feeling this will be the perfect kit to complement D&D – that for the Metal / Prog sessions and Kramer’s for the Blue’s rock – this is just perfect.

The Eddie Kramer Legacy of Rock is going to be the perfect addition along side The Rock Foundry (Bob Rock), which has been my go-to SDX since its release.

AIR Studio never sounded so good in a drum library.
