Trying to get to know EZ Bass, reading the manual and getting hands on with the plugin as I go page by page. Yeah, nerdy, I know. But I’m trying to understand the ins and outs, get to know the grooves, etc. Immediately confused… and I’ve used A TON of VSTi’s, including EZ Keys and EZ Drummer.
So I’m in EZ Bass. If I set my key to E Major and drag a groove from the “Grooves” tab section into the Song Track, it inserts the 8-bar section in C#m?
If I set my key to A and drag a groove in, it inserts the 8-bar section in F#m.
If I set my key to G and drag a groove in, it inserts the 8-bar section in Em.
Common denominator is it’s consistently inserting the relative minor of whatever major key I choose. Huh? If I set the key to a minor key, it inserts that minor key.
What am I missing here. It’s probably a “doh” moment, but I can’t figure out why it’s doing this. Help?

I’m not at my computer at the moment but my guess would be that the original groove is in the minor key so it’s giving you the relative minor to the set key

Thanks for the response. This happens no matter which groove I pick. And if the key chord structure one selects and arranges in the Song Track is overridden by the key of the groove, shouldn’t there be a filter so that a user could select to show only major key grooves if we want a bass performance in a major key? Logically, this makes absolutely no sense.

If you’re at your computer, have you determined the issue here? Can I filter by grooves that are only in a major key if the grooves key, as you suggest, overrides user-chosen key? Thanks.

No, you can’t filter by key. If the groove is minor, and your key is set major, it will display in the relative minor and vice versa.

As Scott said if you highlight the Song Key as Original (just below the Grooves tab) then you’ll see that these are originally in F#m.
As EZBass is already transposing that to C#m it shouldn’t be too hard to then flip to to E major if that is your chosen key so this could be added in a future update hopefully.
Having said that Billy, it’s not too hard to just select all the chords in the song track and change them back to the major key you’re in.
Thanks. Curious…
Does this mean you have to drag each Groove into the Song Track to see what key it’s in?
Agreed, James. it sure would be a nice to avoid all those obstacles to efficient workflow you suggest by having EZ Bass transpose under the hood so MIDI performances support the user’s chosen key. Transposition is just straight math and should be a cakewalk for a program as programmatically robust as this is. OR, like EZ Keys, transpose the performance with a single click. Just port that code over. Appreciate the responses.
