I had the same problem with a 2017 iMac. 2 machines later…It was a font management problem and I had mixed OWC ram (the correct, compatible specs) with Apple ram. The apple store rebuilt the machine with all apple ram and all is well. If you replace apple tam with 3rd party make sure it is all the same company. Hope this helps

I don’t understand anything you said lol. The computers were built brand new by apple and sent to me in the mail…

All I can say is I’ve upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro to Catalina and I’ve had nothing but problems. Nothing works as it should. ProTools is a complete mess. I restart my computer every half hour because it is always telling me I’ve run out of ram. I can watch my internal ssd fill up with who knows what. I’ve dump 20 gigs of stuff from my internal drive, emptied the trash and somehow only picked up 2 gigs of space. My guess is your problems have to do with Catalina. I’ve owns almost every Mac made an have never had the problems I’ve had this this terrible update.

Is it possible to downgrade OS?

I don’t use GB but I have it installed on one of my Catalina machines. SD3 seems to be functioning. There was a prompt to lower security settings, which seems to have something to do with third party plugins.

In the past Apple has not let you downgrade to an OS earlier than the one your hardware was delivered with, at least not easily. Possibly it’s been done, but I haven’t tried it.

What kind of problems are you having with GB on Catalina and I will see if I can recreate it.

The computers froze and had to be factory reset. They showed the memory being full and I had to erase everything. However, the computers came with 1TB of memory

And SD3 is running fine stand-alone.
Do you have any other third party virtual instruments and have you tried them with GB?

At which point does it freeze. What do you mean by factory reset, did you install the recovery partition?

It runs fine but sometimes GB says won’t save and I have to restart the computer and reopen GB to get it to save.

After I restart it or put it on sleep mode it won’t turn back on and I need to erase the Hard Drive and do a factory reset

Did you buy the iMac from an Apple authorized dealer? If so, you can usually schedule some time with CustomerCare to go over the features of your new system. This sounds like something other than a superior drummer problem. You’re right the odds of getting 2 defective machines is astronomical. I have been using iMacs and MacBooks since 2005 and have never sent one back.
