I just got my midi to usb cable (https://www.amazon.ca/iConnectivity-mio-1-out-MIDI-Interface/dp/B00CO5IRSG, this is the one i’m using, the description seemed fine, it’s supposed to not need any drivers. I can’t really see how it would be the source of the problem but anyway) I plugged the midi-out cable into the midi-out of my drum module ( Alesis command mesh) and then to my laptop (it’s an Acer Aspire 7, everyone I consulted told me it would be more than fine for this (https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/Aspire-%C3%89cran-Ultra-9750H-Windows/dp/B07QWSZ7CG,)
I loaded my Ezdrummer 2 and when I go to Audio midi/setup, the only option is ”mio” in midi device, in every video or tutorial I saw, it was written the name of the drumset and the midi interface, I plug my earphones into my laptop and power my E drum and I don’t hear anything and nothing is trigerring in my Ezdrummer 2 app. I really don’t know what to do, do I have to get a dedicated audio interface or some other product, do I have to download a driver (even though it clearly says on the mio usb to midi advertising that it’s not necessarelly). I would greatly appreciate a response
Thank you
I 100% never use plug and play devices unless there is no driver available. If your gear has a driver available yet claims it can plug and play, you’re missing something in that driver. This is the pro work flow. Plug and play is convenience workflow.
Mio is what you select. If you’re using an analog midi cable from your head unit (not USB), i highly doubt it would say the name of your drum kit. Have you checked and tried to use that option yet? Is the appropriate audio playback device selected so you could hear the drums if it was working? You may want to screen cap your settings to help here.
You don’t need a dedicated audio interface. But it may help when/if you have latency issues. ASIO4All should do the trick in this department.

“The display will show the Utility menu. On this page:
• To select an option, use the Down and Up buttons:
o GM Mode: When activated (On), MIDI messages sent into the drum module’s
MIDI In will trigger sounds from the General MIDI (GM) specification. When
deactivated (Off), MIDI messages sent into the drum module’s MIDI In will
trigger the module’s internal sounds (the ones played by each kit). See MIDI to
learn more about this.
o Local Ctrl: When activated (On), playing the pads connected to the drum
module will trigger the drum module’s internal sounds. When deactivated (Off),
playing the pads will send MIDI notes from the drum module to a connected
computer or MIDI device. See Trigger Settings to learn how to set the MIDI
notes. See MIDI to learn how to use the drum module to send MIDI.
o Lefty Mode: When activated (On), the pads connected to the drum module are
reversed to accommodate left-handed playing.
o Auto Power: This feature sets the drum module to power off automatically if it is
not used for a certain amount of time. You can set this to 30 minutes, 60
minutes, or turn it off (Off).
o Contrast: The display’s contrast.

Thanked by: EdouardbtThank you so much! Now I can hear my ezdrummer sounds, sadly, I still have 20.4 ms latency even when using Asio4All and with the buffer size to 64 (minimum) and the sample rate to 44.1 kHz (I close all my applications and web pages and even turn off the internet while running it). My laptop is actually pretty good (I think) and I only got it 3 weeks ago (https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/Aspire-%C3%89cran-Ultra-9750H-Windows/dp/B07QWSZ7CG) the processor is a 9th generation IntelCore i7-975-0H 6 core it’s supposed to be pretty good as far as I can see on internet (plus I have 16 Go of Ram). What should I do at this point, do I have to get a Daw (if so wich one) and or do I have to get a audio interface or is there some other settings that I could change to optimize the latency.
Thank you so much for you’re time!
I can’t advise precisely because I do not have your computer. My assumptions are this. A DAW won’t bring your latency down, use a DAW for other reasons. I would definitely be thinking about an audio interface and consider buying one from a place that has a simple and effective return option, like Amazon. Or support a dif company like Sweetwater.
I have similar specs than you, yet on a desktop which may have faster bus speeds (I’m no expert with this), on a $1000 Audio Interface, and have 2.4ms latency.
On my other desktop with higher specs with $2000+ Audio Interface, I have 2.4ms.
Specifically for you I plugged my $100 Presonus Audiobox in on my lesser specs PC and got a surprising 2.5ms. Impressed. 8.5 @512 buffer.
My measurements are solely “Output Latency” @ 64 buffer which I don’t even use. Usually at 128+. Is your system even stable at 64?!?!? My results should be considered speculation since I do not work on your setup. Personally my ear doesn’t have an issue with 12ms latency on percussion, but we all have different sensitivity and standards.
You can try a new thread here for your new issue, you are asking about 3rd party support though. You could try vdrums.com and read their Latency FAQ. I wouldn’t just sign up and post your question without searching first though.
Good luck on your endeavor.
