Hello,
I recently purchased SD3 to use with my Roland TD-17 module. I run SD3 off an external hard drive, and connect my computer to the TD-17 via printer cable. When I use my headphones (connected to TD-17 by 3.5 mm audio jack) this setup is fine, and any lag is virtually unnoticeable. However, when I play through my drum monitor (connected to the TD-17) the lag makes playing the E drums impossible. Is there any solutions to this? I am pretty new to E-drums and Superior Drummer. I really want to be able to use SD3 with my external speakers when I play in a live setting because the sample quality is so much better than the ones that come stock on the Roland.
Thanks,
J
Hi,
normally I would just tell you to decrease the Buffer Size in the Audio Device settings in SD3 but;
are you saying that you are using the TD-17 as Audio Device and when you have headphones connected there is no latency but when using audio cables from your module’s monitor outputs, you get latency?
If so, it sounds as there is something causing the latency after the module.
Have you checked that you have the latest drivers and use it in switched Vender mode (whatever that is, I just read it on the Roland site)?

John

Hi John,
Thanks for responding.
So to clarify, my headphones are connected to the TD-17 and I have no latency problems. I run a guitar cable from the TD-17 to a monitor and that’s when the lag happens. I guess that is using the TD-17 as the audio device?
I haven’t checked to see if I have the latest drivers yet. Do you think I should also try lowering the buffer size in the audio device settings? If so, what should I lower them to?
Thanks,
J
Why don’t you connect your monitors (and your headphones) directly to your computer? Routing the audio output through the TD-17 and then to your monitors is probably what’s causing the lag; it’s not an audio interface after all.

The td17 does have an audio interface but many find it does not work great at low buffer settings. I tried mine on my td30 and it wasn’t acceptable. It didn’t compare to the audio interface I was using at the time. You need to get your buffers down to 64 but even that is not the full story as my td30 goes down to 64 but still has higher latency.
