You should just select “Set as Default Project” from MENU. (That saves a file in %AppData%\Toontrack\EZdrummer but you don’t really need to know about that.)

“Set as Default Project” selection from MENU did nothing. I was able to manually do it by editing DefaultProject (C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Toontrack\EZdrummer) with a txt editor.

Note for others with this issue: Open the .ezdp file you want as your default in a txt editor. Copy all. Open the DefaultProject file as above. Select all–>paste. Save.

Done; open EZdrummer and enjoy your awesomeness!

This has been driving me crazy!  I knew I was doing things correctly (it’s not hard to “set current project as default”) but it would never work upon startup.  If I manually load the program I called default, everything was perfect.

Pushing four years later and this still seems to be a problem?

I will try the above fix.  Hoping it works.

I tried this, but it didn’t work.   I’m not sure I understand the instructions.  The ezdp file I am copying IS my default project.  Copying and pasting it to the same file does nothing.

Yes, how do I fix this in SD3.  What I’m looking for is for the default project to be the one that loads automatically when I open Superior Drummer 3 in my DAW. I’d like to simply have the menu choice work to set the default project, because I may want to change this periodically.  But I did try manually as per  above. I have found a DefultProject file (no extension) in a file path under Users/App Data/Roaming/Superior

But when I copy my SD3 Project into this file (DefaultProject) using a text editor, the old, unwanted default still loads.  I exited out of everything, and reloaded my DAW and reloaded Superior Drummer 3, but I still get the old default project.

As a workaround I’m creating SD3 DAW presets which I can drag in – but actually it’s convenient to have that menu option if it can work, since I may go in and out of the DAW several times in a few days and have a template I’m updating, and to use it as a temp default so that I don’t need to create a bunch of extra presets that need to be deleted later.  I wouldn’t have thought it was an improvement over the DAW, but in this case it is.

If I got to the menu choice OPEN DEFAULT PROJCT then my defaults that I copied into that file DO LOAD.  But I find it odd that they don’t load when I open SD3. Hopefully that’s clear.

This works same way in both SD3 and EZD3 but slight subtlety that can be confusing. When you save project as say “andrew Yamaha Kit.ezd3p” in EZD3 (or .sd3p in SD3) then all all information is retained and you can “set as default project” and all info will open every time you open EZD3 (or SD3).

The subtlety is that when you open either EZD3 (or SD3) it will load the default info however it will show “project untitled” in the dropdown even though it has all the same info as “andrew Yamaha Kit.ezdp”.

Hope this helps (see screenshot – for SD3 but same in EZD3)

    cheers, Andrew

I was having this exact same issue, and after contacting support, what they told me may help other users.

In my case I found that my MIDI controller mappings (that is the custom setup I created between my Maschine Mikro Mk3 and EZ Drummer 3 Standalone), were not being saved as part of the Default Project.

Basically (and MASSIVELY confusingly) it seems that even though my mappings ARE saved with a Project (i.e. they are retained if I load the Project manually), if I then set that same project as Default Project, then those same mappings ARE NOT recalled when the Default Project loads. This makes it seem that the Default Project either didn’t load or wasn’t overwritten when I did File/Set Current to Default Project, when in fact it did and was, except that the MIDI mappings were not loaded.

You have to ALSO save those mappings and make them default in a separate place which is Settings/E-Drums/MIDI-In… you then have to expand the Preset menu, save your mappings as a User Preset and (if desired) set that to default (Set Current State to Default), then save your Project again and set that to default (as described above).

Then when you open EZ Standalone, it will be ready to work straight away with your controller and mappings of choice (at least until they update the sofware, maybe ;-).

I hope this saves someone else a lot of frustration!
