Hello All!
I used Scarbee Jay Bass before getting EZBass. Jay Bass has two trill articulations that I haven’t figured out how to program in EZBass. For clarification, I’m calling a buzz-trill as the sound of a bass player moving his finger back and forth over a fret quickly. A trill on the other hand is a sequence of repeated hammer-on and pull-offs. I tried programming a series of hammer ons and pull offs but it didn’t sound right at all. I also tried a series of graces notes but still didn’t get a natural sound.
Anyone have any experience with this?
I could get a decent enough trill with hammer-ons and pull-offs (legato), but maybe you want more fret noise? While you can control velocity independently for each note, the intensity of a sustained note transfers between the notes. You could try having the hammer-ons at a higher velocity than the pull-offs and see if that works for you.
The scarbee bass trills sound more like a sliding sound, maybe those are (one finger) slurs? I’d use slide rather than hammer-ons and pull-offs for that. Still legato : )

Thanks for your response Erik. Yes it’s what Scarbee calls a buzz trill that I’m looking for (i.e. bass player sliding his finger back and forth over a fret quickly). It’s a fairly common articulation for bass players. It’s often used as a transition between the verse and the chorus. Tony Levin uses that technique quite a bit. It’s too bad EZBass didn’t include it. Perhaps ToonTrack would consider adding this articulation in a future update?
Thanks for the suggestion Daniel, I’ve added a feature request to add an articulation for them.
You can program them right now by adding the notes you want to have in your trill, selecting all of them and applying a legato slide. It’s a precision job, but it’ll get you there with a little patience for now.
As usual new features are happy little surprises, so no promises when it’ll be in. Right now we’re focusing on making EZbass stable for all our users.

I tried what you suggested however it doesn’t sound like a trill at all. I do appreciate the effort though and I look forward to having this articulation added to the options in the near future.
I second the request for a buzz trill, legato trill, sting, shake, single finger trill, or whatever you call it. Those are all the names I’ve found for it. This is an extremely common electric bass articulation in many R&B, funk, and fusion recordings. It’s usually a half step, and on upper strings, and has 3 to 5 notes in it. (but there are exceptions to all those descriptions). It can trill up, or trill down. It’s typically fast, so fast it’s hard to hear exactly what’s going on – like 32nd note fast. For example, it might be the notes F, E, F. or E, F, E. or F, E, F, E, F, and so on.
I’ve spent a couple of hours trying to get EZbass to do this, and I’ve had no luck.
I’m working on a song right now and I wish I had the option to insert a trill! I’m tempted to switch to Scarbee for that one note. They’ve done a great job coding the key switches for multiple trills. They call, them buzz trills and trills. Very well implemented. Please ToonTrack, add trills to the articulations! If anyone can do it, you guys can!
I have the 1.1.6 update, following the instructions listed in https://www.toontrack.com/faq/release-notes-for-ezbass-1-0-7/, still can’t get it to sound any good. Anyone succeed yet?
I tried this new articulation and it sounds like a “buzz trill” on a fretless bass. This is very odd. It makes me wonder if the person programming it actually listens to bass players? This is not something anyone needs.
