I have spent a lot of time creating MIDI drum tracks within Logic Pro’s piano roll with Superior Drummer 2.
I have upgraded to Superior Drummer 3.
I’ve tried to export the MIDI from Logic and then reimport into SD3 Groove track area. Every time I import the MIDI file it’s just an empty block.
Any ideas?
Your best move is to put SD3 into record mode and hit play in Logic.

Thanked by: gearnerdIn the lower left hand corner on the home “Drums” page, there is a tab named “Track”. Click on that tab and the option “Import MIDI file” will appear. Select that and guide it to where your MIDI track is located on your drive and it should import it from there.
SD3 doesn’t always read Logic’s exports. It is often better to record it into SD3 rather than try to import it from a file.

what i just did was drag the midi from logic straight in the track window in SD3 it worked great

How are you doing that? Logic won’t let me drag MIDI into the SD3 plugin. I can’t drag it into the stand alone either.

Unless they found some setting unknown to every Logic user, the only way to get a MIDI file into SD3 other than hitting the record button in SD3, is to export the MIDI region/track to a file and drag the file into SD3. Dragging MIDI out of Logic otherwise does an export as audio, and cut/copy region doesn’t populate an external clipboard.
I could only be persuade to believe otherwise with a complete and detailed video.

export midi region from logic to midi file
import midi file in SD3
not the smart way to work but… works
if you do that you end up with a midi region way longer than the actual logic region, plus it’s mapped wrong.

The mapping is correct for me. However, Logic may be adding extra information to the MIDI file. I usually just hit the record button in SD3 while playing Logic. Never an issue that way.

It looks like you are using the drum designer mapping in Logic. That’s a totally different animal.

Jord, I like your idea of hitting the record button in SD3 and hitting play in logic, but it’s not working for me. I have a song I recorded some time ago and I used logic drums. I just want to upgrade them in SD3. I’m soloing the original midi drum track and the new track I have SD3 on. I put the playhead to the beginning of the song. Hit record button in SD3, and then the play button in logic pro x. I just get blankness.
Is there a trick to this?
You’re probably on a different track. Why not just take the track with the Logic drums and replace the plug-in with SD3. I’ve done this many times for a quick drum track.

No probs. Also, you might want to use the Logic Drum Designer Map in SD3 to ensure the correct playback.
