I’m having the same problem. It seems all the cymbals sample panning is constrained by which sample you choose. I’m replacing the right hand crash with another sample, but once replaced, the sound comes from the left. I’ve noticed now that when you browse through different cymbals in the instrument search list, they have their panning already set.

It’s very frustrating that the panning is determined by the sample, and not by where you place the instrument in the kit layout, which seems absolutely ridiculous to me, unless I’m doing something wrong.

If I’m correct, and the cymbal panning is hard coded, then Toontrack, please add a panning column in the Search for Instrument window so we can filter for the cotrrect side of the kit.

The panning should be determined by how it was recorded since that is how it is hitting the overhead mic and not by any graphic. The graphics are not by any means an accurate representation of the kit considering that you can route any kit piece to its own channel and create your own panning rules, as well as select almost any kit piece as a replacement.

You’re free to change the rules and set everything up however you want to.

Hey guys the reason you’re hearing panning is because the overheads and room mics are stereo recordings, so you’re hearing the true position of the cymbal as it was recorded in the studio space.

I figured out a trick to work around this and flip the panning for my favourite preset though.

I like both the 16″ and 18″ Zildjan K crashes, they’re both recorded on the left side of the kit.

So the trick is to create user microphone inputs and route JUST for the crashes you want to move. Then reverse the L and R panning. You get to keep the stereo image, but you’ve essentially flipped the stereo mics left and right.

I now have a K16″ on the left and a K18″ on the right.

    Screenshot attached.
