Good evening,
After running the Toontrack Product Manager before I went to bed, I saw that there was an update. I updated and now I cannot open Superior Drummer 3 at all. I have only 1 “Superior Drummer 3.dll’ and there isn’t a *.VST3 being used.
The location of the original Superior Drummer 3.dll was in the same place.
I made sure to search all my drives to make sure this .dll file was the only one. All the products I have say they are up to date, yet I cannot use anything at the moment.
I am using Windows 10 – 64-bit. I have my superior library on a different drive but again, this has never been an issue. The install of the Superior Drummer 3.exe is located: C:\Program Files\Toontrack\Superior Drummer (see attachment) and my external drive holds the Superior Drummer 3 library files. The .dll file is not in the default location but this has never been an issue before.
I have attached a screenshot showing I have only one Super Drummer 3.dll
All products are showing they are up-to-date in the Toontrack Product Manager as well. ( See screenshot )
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Dave in Memphis
I and several others have had this problem. I posted a solution when I had it and was somewhat admonished by Toontracks saying that this wasn’t the right way to fix it. They intimated that I must have installed in wrong in the first place. Anyway, you can find both solutions at the link below. I have updated my SD3 twice and used my solution both times.
Cubase Pro, Korg Kronos, M-50, Hammond XK-1c, Toontrack SD3, EZBass w/lots of expansions, many VSL Vi's, Shreddage 3 everything, and shit-tons of FX plugins.

Thanked by: hawtoonsWell, that’s a first 🙂 and I’m not trying to be disrespectful here or smart, it’s just that I haven’t seen this, reversed, situation before.
The “normal” Support situation is that the .dll file has been moved post install, so the PM does not know about the new location and updates everything but the .dll that has been moved/copied. This results in the Resources being new and the Plugin file being old (not updated).
In your case it’s the opposite; your Plugin version is newer than the Resources and I am not sure how that can happen.
Did you Custom install the plugin to your B:\ drive?
What does the PM say if you check the installation info of the plugin?

Thanked by: Mac McCormickHey John,
No worries on the admonishment. When using just the written word many things can be misunderstood. So maybe I took it wrong.
I don’t remember ever moving the dll. And since several other people have had this problem (this is the 2nd one I have responded to) there might be another reason for this. What I found that I had two SD3 dll files on my C drive and the stand-alone was seeing one and the plugin was seeing another. The only thing I can think of is that I upgraded to SD3 from EZdrummer and may be that is the case with the others reporting this issue.
Either way, it’s solved and I am a happy camper and I just want all SD3 folks to be happy too. I’m a huge fan of your products and the quality of your support.

Thanked by: JohnThank you both for your suggestions. What if you only find ONE Superior Drummer 3.dll? I have searched over and over for multiple instances and I find nothing but ONE. My DAW points to the right folder as well. I just don’t know what to do at this stage.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks again,
Dave
I had to use a backup of the Superior Drummer 3.dll ( Version 3.1.4) and the Superior Drummer 3.exe product version 3.1.6 to get this to work again.
It opens fine now. No idea what is going on but I really appreciate the help.
I am now able to open it in my DAW as well as the standalone with no issues. ( Version 3.1.4)
Thanks again everyone but now I am afraid to update again until I find a solution that will allow me to update the software.
Just for verification, I have read other solutions and I never found multiple “Superior Drummer 3.dll” files on my system. Once I replaced my backup “Superior Drummer 3.dll” in the original VST folder ( which has never changed) it started working immediately.
Thank you so much in advance,
-Dave from Memphis
John,
Thank you very much for your response. Could you assist me with what you are referring to when you said the following:
What does the PM say if you check the installation info of the plugin?
I just want to be sure to offer the answers to the questions you are asking.
Thanks again,

Dave,
Did you search your entire C drive for the SD3 dll?

Cubase Pro, Korg Kronos, M-50, Hammond XK-1c, Toontrack SD3, EZBass w/lots of expansions, many VSL Vi's, Shreddage 3 everything, and shit-tons of FX plugins.
In Product Manager, go to Superior Drummer 3, > “Show Details” then select the “Installation Info” tab.

Good evening,
I opened Product Manager and looked within the Superior Drummer 3 – Upgrade —> Details —-> and found the following ( I attempted the upgrade again)
Now the stand alone and the plugin show the following:
I did a search of all my hard drives and only found ONE Super Drummer 3.dll. I am so lost. I will go back with the older Superior Drummer 3.dll from my backup again to make it work in the mean time.
I just replace the current one in the same location and it works. No idea why this is happening.
Thanks all,
Dave in Memphis

Good morning and thank you John. I really appreciate everyone’s help with this.
Much appreciated.

Hi Dave,
I got a suggestion for you, please try this:
The resources are the contents of the folder C:\ProgramData\Toontrack\Superior Drummer 3. Please remove/rename that “Superior Drummer 3” folder and run the 3.1.6 updater again. Removing them should make the updater repair the installation and install them.

This 100% worked!! I simply did what John suggest by renaming the “Superior Drummer 3” folder to “Superior Drummer 3_old” and re-installed and it worked 100%!
Thank you all so much for helping me with this. I sincerely appreciate your time and support.
Thanks again,
