Hello there. Just bought SD3, and I was hoping I could download to an external drive. However I got the message that the main software has to be downloaded on OS. Currently trying to install everything but keep getting “a folder could not be created” error. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance
As you search the forum you will notice this is the most asked question. Just buy a big *ss (external) SSD drive and install everything from the SD3 install manager. Personally I’d get a an external 2TB SSD drive and run all the sound packs from there.

You can install the sound library to an external drive, but the plug-in and product (which has a relatively small foot print) needs to be installed on your system drive.

Note that downloading (the installer packages) and installing are different things. Your download location does not need to be where you want the products to be installed, in fact it’s recommended to at least use a separate folder for Product Manager downloads and that you don’t install anything anywhere inside that folder.
The error “a folder could not be created” sounds like something you can get in Product Manager when trying to download a Superior Drummer sound library and it usually means that your download location (set in Product Manager Preferences) is a folder that is not writable, i.e., it does not have good permissions for being a Product Manager download folder.

Actually, if there was an easy way to install libraries to external drive – you people would make a video to demonstrate that .
But that’s not the case, that’s why I have two keep reading lies.
Wish I ve never bought nothing from you.

Actually you select the “browse” selector when you install the sample library and navigate to the drive and folder you want to install to.
So what’s got you all bunged up. Let’s see if we can walk through the issue.
What is your host? Windows or Mac?
Have you installed Product Manager to your host.
Have you installed the software (Superior Drummer 3)?

If you are going to do a custom install to an external drive, Mac finder and Windows File Explorer will both let you create a folder to install your SDXs to. The custom install process calls Finder or File Explorer based on host type.
For example, one of my external drives, there are folders for UVI, Sonuscore, Gforce, and Superior Drummer. Allowing me to install sample libraries accordingly. The SDX installer will, of course, create a folder for SDX itself.
If you are performing a standard install the main folders and sub folders will all be done for you.
