Hi,
I have a question that seems kinda basic, but a quick look thru the manual did not result in arriving at the answer for me.
I have an (external) MIDI drum groove where the performance calls for a cowbell on note 56/G#2.
Taking the ‘Indie Rock Room’ SD3 kit as an example, the sound assigned there is Cymbal 3: Mute Hit.
If I want to hear the cowbell on playback, without editing the MIDI groove, how would I go about assigning a cowbell sound to the SD3 map for the kit instead of the Cymbal Sound currently there?
And then, how could I save this altered map for future reloading if needed?
(And, do I need to save the default map first to preserve it, or is that already always available in SD3 should I need it? – and if so, where)
My thanks to whomever can walk me thru this!
Start by adding a Cowbell (Drums tab top right corner > Add Instrument > Search for Instrument…)
Then go to MIDI mapping property box (right of the drum kit) and add 56 as the MIDI note it should listen to.
When you change Drums and Mixer preset, press the small arrow in the preset list and open Load Parts…

There is also another way of doing this, using Settings > MIDI In/E-drums but I think the above way is enough in your case. If not, please write back in this thread 🙂

Hi,
Thank you for your reply!
I added the Cowbell via ‘Add Instrument’ in the upper left corner.
Then I opened what I think is MIDI mapping property box you refer to. (Actually, I had gotten this far already.)
However, I do not know how to change the assignment of note 56, which is currently Cymbal 3: Mute Hit to be the Cowbell instead. This is where I need more specific instructions to get over the hurdle!
Or, maybe I’m indeed in the wrong place (?)
Picture attached. Thanks!
To further my question, after I’ve done the above (incomplete as it is) I have an asterisk after the kit name, like so:
‘Indie Rock Room*’
This indicates a changed kit, yes?
So, do I understand correctly that doing a Kit ‘Save As’ (see pic) will allow me to rename my new kit as, say, “Indie Rock Room Tamb01” without messing up the original, whereas if I wanted to change the default “Indie Rock Room” forever then I would do ‘Save As’ to (exactly) “Indie Rock Room”?

Beneath the red arrow in your image, there’s a box called MIDI Mapping. In there, double click the number 95 (the current MIDI note it has assigned) and write 53!

Yes exactly.

Correct, you can then load this preset, with the cowbell, and any other change you have med to the kit or the mixer. That’s why these presets are called Drums & Mixer Preset 🙂
