Hi TT-Team.
Problems with SD3 as a VST in my DAWs (Cubase/Ableton/Cantabile).
The State / Position / Percentage of my stored macro settings after preset change
(e.g. SD3-Yamaha to SD3-Ludwig from the same Library)
are not reflected or recognized by the DAW.
So – Controllers cannot visual reflect (LED-Rings / Strips / Motorfader) the loaded actual state.
I´ve tested this in Cubase/Ableton/Cantabile – all same.
It´s impossible to finetune Drumsets with Hardware-Controllers with this behavior.
Only one Type of Controller that works is a endless rotary Knob (but not reflected by LED-Rings).
SD3-Macros are not sending/updating the necessery infos to the DAW.
Another Problem: If I move the fader bounded to a macro – the macro knob is not moving – so the state
cannot reflected by the DAW.
Please – not forget – Hardware Controllers are wide used…
Sry about my bad english…

Hi Joste,
But it perfectly works in standalone i guess, right?

SD3-Macros are not sending/updating the necessery infos to the DAW.
This can’t be done since plugins (such as Superior Drummer 3) can’t “tell” the DAW what to do.

This can’t be done either, but from a logical perspective! For example, say that you have connected a macro knob to to a volume and a pitch knob in Superior Drummer 3, so that when you turn the macro knob both the volume and the pitch changes.
If you would change the volume control, and that would change the macro, that would in turn also change the pitch control – which probably wouldn’t be intended!

Hello Henrik.
First, thanks for the quick response. and one thing in advance
– I’m currently very happy with SD3 and do not want to sound disrespectful …

– I think that’s not right. VSTs can and should communicate their (changed) parameter status to the DAW.
Otherwise, VSTSynths with bidirectional hardware controller – control would be unthinkable.
These are not commands to the DAW but only status information (e.g., CCs / Para 1-100) of the VSTi.

– Yes, admittedly this is a bit more complicated as it would take into account different uses of the macros.
1. The Macro controls only one parameter (for example, a MixerFader)
– here bidirectional would be problem-free
2. The Macro controls several parameters
– Here should be a graphic hint (in the GUI / parameter block – Like Solo / Mute on the MixerTab above)
that there are several parameters and a clickable choice to change all or one from the nested parameters…
this is like an Off or temporarely Unlink – Button to disable the bidirectional parameter change.
This is may be considered as a constructive wish list :-))
Greetings…

Thanked by: Henrik EkblomIf you touch or move one of the macro knobs in the SD3 GUI, does that
update your hardware state?

@derilja: I am not using SD3 Standalone…
@Olle @Henrik: No, DAW and so the Hardware are not recognize the NEW state.
Same when u load another Kit from SD3-dropdown menue with new Macro states.
New Macro states are not reflected.
Only when u load from Preset/Bank – VSTi.fxb/fxp the states immediately updating.
A curiosity: If u record (in a DAW) the macromovements (as controllers)
Macro 2 / 3 /4… are recordable…
Macro 1 – not – maybe a part of the problem?
(Not using German a lot)
When you adjust a macro knob inside the GUI of SD3, SD3 will notify the host about the change but the host may not do anything in response to that unless a suitable automation mode is active. If this doesn’t work then selecting a preset will also have no chance to affect your hardware sliders.
Unfortunately there is a bug in 3.1.3 and 3.1.4 that makes the “touch” mode useless.
And, actually, I have no experience with updating motorized control surfaces like this. I am just guessing at how the hosts handle this.
