Hey everyone!
So i’m trying to find the best way to record within logic pro x.
I have a project in logic with several synths, bass, vocals, etc.
I want to record drums for it, so I made a multi out track with SD3 as VST.
I want to be able to play my drums in ‘live’ while listening to the rest of the project (so drumming along in essence).
However, when I hit record and play in the SD3 VST, the project does not start (in logic). When I hit record in logic, the project/clock starts, but the SD3 VST does not ( so no midi recorded in the grid editor of SD3).
I could hit record in logic first and then quickly hit record in the SD3 VST window, but isn’t there a better way to do this?
thanks for the help!
Well. There are 2 approaches.
I prefer to start inside of SD3 and once I finalize song, I move midi from SD3 into DAW and make final mixing there.
Thank you! I think i prefer your first method too.
where do I find the follow host option?
Thanks again!
Actually both have their benefits and trade-offs. Logic is extremely powerful in its own right for MIDI recording and editing. There are plenty of things that can be done within Logic beyond SD3. SD3’s editing capabilities shine more in editing your grooves in a “machine-learned” fashion as well as piecing variations of your drum track.
