I’m trying to add a snare roll articulation from NY Avatar to SD3. I’ve succeeded in assigning it to the MIDI key I want, but I can’t figure out how to assign it a “snare group” in such a way that the roll will be cut off by the next snare hit in my track. Can someone explain how to do this? Thanks!
Peter
You can’t edit the built in mute groups, but you can control the length of a roll.

Thanked by: Peter LuryeThanks for the clear instructions! That worked fine for my purposes. Curious, though—since mute groups for hi-hats appear to be built into SD3, is there any particular reason you decided against allowing users to create their own mute groups?

Well, the main reason is that it’s a pretty complex situation – more than one can image by just “adding an articulation” to a mute group. They interact with each other in many ways, in different scenarios.
However, this is on our feature request list since we know that some users wants to be able to control this, and we’ll look into the matter when we have the time. Thanks for the feedback!

Makes sense—thanks. Mostly I’d think the relevant scenarios would be instruments that have rolls (like snare, conga, cymbals) and hi-hats. However I guess it’s pretty unlikely that you’d want to take the open hi-hat articulation from one instrument and pair it with the closed hi-hat articulation from another. Or… would mute groups work in that instance?

Well, there are many different scenarios where the user may want it this way or another way. In theory one could import an open hi-hat and stack to a snare, and the hi-hat should mute snare rolls – for example 🙂

Good point! OK, you talked me into it—I support adding user-editable mute groups. 🙂 (Thanks.)
