I’m still trying to get to grips with the complexity of SD3 and would appreciate a bit of guidance.
I’m trying to understand the signal flow, but can not find any preset that uses the ‘OH Cond’ and ‘Amb Mid’ mic channels. How is signal passed to them?

Check the S3 Manual and see the section on Bleed From Instrument:
You just need to turn on the bleed from the instruments you want in those channels. They are not active by default or in presets to keep the RAM footprint low.

Thanked by: Asa Palmer“Bleed” is just how much volume an instrument sounds into a microphone (which in turn is represented as a mixer channel in SD3).
So when you select an OH channel, for example, in SD3, you can decide how much each instrument should sound in to that channel. This is done in the bleed section on the right side of the mixer tab.

Thanked by: Asa PalmerI’m still really confused (have been for days now and it seems to be getting worse).
Looking at the Mixer screen, I’ve assigned the 3 kick mic channels to the single output ‘Out 1/2’ (which I’ve renamed ‘KICK’ to correspond to a channel in Nuendo. However, looking at the Route Instrument Microphones’ window Microphone Kick In is routed to Mixer Channel Kick In, Microphone Kick Out is routed to Mixer Channel Kick Out and Microphone Kick Sub is routed to Mixer Channel Kick Sub. This is very confusing. I’m trying to get all three kick mics grouped together in Out 1/2, without using the busses. What am I missing here?
I’m reading and rereading the manual day after day just trying to get everything routed back to Nuendo in a logical way, but I don’t appear to be getting very far.
For a start, I would prefer that Kick, Snare and HH could be output in mono, but never mind that for now. I would be happy if it were possible to do the following:
Group all Kick mics to Out 1/2
Group all SN mics to Out 3/4
Route HiHat mic to Out 5/6
Group all five Tom mics to Out 7/8
Group all Crash cymbal mics to Out 9/10
Route all Ride Cymbal mics to Out 11/12
Send varying amounts of each instrument to the three Ambience mic pairs (perhaps depending on how far each mic pair is away from the kit). – I’m not using the surround channels.
How can this be accomplished?
At the moment I feel that if I can not accomplish this very soon now I will probably give up and remain with BFD2, which would be a shame as SD3 does sound fantastic. I just can’t continue spending so much time on this basic setup.

I guess is depends on the preset you are working with. By default all presets are set to Out 1/2, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. The direct mics are probably routed to Busses in the mixer. Those busses are then routed to Out 1/2 to your DAW.
Now, if you want to multi out into Nuendo, you can either route the Busses to multiple outputs as you want (click the Output field on the mixer as assign to “Outputs whatever you want”), or you can route the direct mic channels to the outputs and bypass any busses. I’m sure the busses have processing so they won’t sound the same but if you’re routing out into a DAW, you want to process in the DAW…but anyway…
In the pic below, you can see the Direct Mic channels are routed (Output) to the Kick Bus (Colored Orange). That Kick Bus is then routed to Output 1/2 (Colored Red). Depending on the preset, the other outputs and/or busses may be hidden and you need to Edit Visibility to show them. You can then display Out 3/4, Out 5/6, Out 7/8, etc. These then can be routed in your DAW if you have activated those Outputs in Nuendo.
Hope that helps. Let me know if I can make things clearer.

Thanked by: Asa PalmerReferring to your original post, if I’m reading it right.
If you want to see where everything from your kit piece is going, right click the kit piece and select More -> Route Instrument Microphones
Not only can you change where it’s going within the mixer channels, you can create your own mixer channels from this. Without trying to push your head under, I’ll tell you that it is highly configurable.
