I assume you are using a DAW and not just the Stand-Alone version of SD3.

I don’t have SD3 open right now but I do believe that what you want to do is possible. In the Manual go to chapter 10/30 and look under “Selecting a MIDI Device”. There are other parts of the manual that deal with this as well. (I just searched the manual for “MIDI In”) Basically you want to learn how to setup eDrums in SD3. Activate the MIDI in for SD3 which then allows you to choose a MIDI device as your input device along with MIDI channel, etc. Also remember that you can detach any tab in SD3. This would allow you to keep the grid editor open in a different SD3 window while you record.

If you have any questions let me know and I’ll open up SD3 and find out for sure how to do it.

    hello guys

i´m recording midi via a midi-keyboard and i find it quite annoying to switch the windows whilst recording because SD3 doesnt allow to record notes “directly into the grid-editor”.  maybe there is a feature i haven´t spotted yet but i´d find it pretty convenient to record midi and do the editing of single notes via mouse/keyboard right away..

is there some sort of workaround? does anyone have the same issue?

    cheers!

Also I believe you cañ hit the dble squares in the upper corner of the tab to have the grid tab floating and access any window you want (even via shortcuts). I don’t use it for recording with keys but use this feature for accessing and changing drums and other stuff… It should work…

As written above, it works when you detach the Grid Editor window – and then close the Edit Play Style popup in the main window.

I will write a feature request about this, to make it possible to record straight into the Grid Editor – without having to detach the window.
