Midi import/audio bounce issues

    Hi Adrian,

     

    the dragging from host to plug-in “problem” is a host limitation, not a plug-in limitation. Happens in most hosts/DAWs out there.

    What you can do, to get your MIDI from the DAW track to the SD3 Song Track, is to click Rec on the SD3 Song Track and then Play in Logic to play through your song. Then the MIDI will end up in place on your Song Track.

    To get Tempo changes right, you need to Import the Tempo from an exported MIDI file.

    When you use the SD3 internal Bounce feature, you will have to disable ‘Follow Host’ since the host isn’t actually running. Otherwise the tempo at the current Playhead position will be set to the entire SD3 Track when Bouncing internally.

    Yes, you will have to set the Loop area or add a Bar or so to get decays included.

    Hey John – I am having one of the same problems that was listed in this original post, but not addressed:

    • after dragging a midi file from Finder to the Song Track, the resulting block is way longer than the actual midi file (ie. 2000 bars instead of 183), so if you bounce it like that, you end up with audio files of about 30 minutes instead of 3 minutes :)… you have to manually cut the added bars

    This becomes more than just an inconvenience because if you’re trying to import a MIDI file for one section of a song, but you already have other MIDI tracks in SD3, the extra length of the MIDI file causes it to overlap with the other MIDI files and they disappear.

    I’ve imported the MIDI files into other platforms, and they are showing up without the extra bars, so it feels like it’s specific to SD3. Any way to prevent the extra bars being added?

    For reference, I’m using Logic Pro X. Oh, and SD3 is dope as hell, just trying to get my workflow right by fixing this small issue.

    In this case, I have a kit selected and have successfully added 3 more kick drums via import to the kick stack.

    However, when try to import any wave at all to the snare artictulations (rim shot or sidestick) it mangles the sound;  the result doesn’t sound like the original at all.

    I have tried various clears and replaces to no avail.   I’ve tried turning off any processing on the new stack item but no luck there either.

    Any ideas?  The original articulation sounds just fine.

    I’ve attached a sample rim shot that I have tried where the resultant sound becomes more like a mangled snare.

    I edited the post to attach a screen shot of what I was doing.

    I can’t really use this tool effectively without a solution for this; it does seem to be a bug of some kind.

    Hi there’ is the sample you are importing onto the sidestick from an electronic kit? I ask because when I import it into either of my DAWs it redlines!

    So…. I have uploaded a small project file with that sample stacked on the sidestick of the N & C snare, and brought the level of the sample way WAY down.

    I think it’s more palatable…. YMMV

    how is the stacked Rim/Sidestick routed? Please right-click the stacked pad and go to ‘Route Instrument Microphones’ and check. If it is being routed to an existing Mixer channel that has got FX on it, it will also get the same treatment. If the Main out is being heavily processed and this works for the rest of the kit but not the stacked sample, please route it to its own output.

    Thank you Brad and John for responding.  I went offline due to family emergency and am only now picking up the pieces.

    Both of your responses have helped.  What I am trying to do is harmonize the kick and snare in the key of C in order to compliment the song.

    To do this, I’ve uploaded three wave files for each kick and snare stack (C, E, G, respectively), then muted the original snare and drum.   This seems to work in standalone mode, perhaps my DAW was causing issues?  If so, I’ll test and try that later.   However, as John specified, each of the sounds in the stack is leveraging the mic and effects of the original sound so its not sounding so great….way too loud as well.

    So, John, how do I remove the inheritance of the effects on the original kick/snare?  Y ou specified to change the mic routing but I’m not sure where to start in the interface.   I’ve attached my drum kit so perhaps you could just edit the kit to show me?

    Hi Ken,

    I have uploaded a project with all the imported samples isolated to new user channels.

    I probably don’t have them in the right place, but hopefully you get the idea.

    I did this by adding them to the stack ands then right/control click the newly added sample and selecting: “route instrument Microphone”

    RightCntrl-Click-Route-Mic

    And then going to the bottom of the list and selecting: “Create New Channel”. This basically creates a new close microphone for your instrument.

    Hope this helps a bit…

    PS I uploaded another modified project, which might be easier to follow. It has one user channel for the imported snare samples and one channel for the imported kick samples.
