Hey there,
I love SD3, its amazing. I just have some issues with the sensitivity of my pads/cymbals on my TD-50. The bass drum is SUPER quiet (despite the mixer showing it should be louder) When I use my kick, it seems like the sensitivity needs to be adjusted somehow, the same with my cymbals, if I hit them SUPER hard, it doesn’t act like it. Any help would be great 😀
This is something I’m struggling with as well.
But I made a new kit for SD3 on my TD-50 and cracked up sensitivity on al my pads, including kick, toms, snare Ride and symbals. Which more or less did it for me.
But I’m still open to try a better solution.
Have you had an issue also where the high hat closed triggers a crash cymbal? Im trying to figure it out
Doesn’t sound familiar to me. I’m using the VH-13 Hi-hats though.
But I guess that could be easily fixed by choosing the TD-50 midi mapping preset first and change midi trigger options for your specific trigger intrument(s) afterwards.
Btw, Mike Luke’s YouTube channel covers some excellent videos about how to get perfect triggering Hi-hats and multi-zone triggers explained in Superior Drummer 3. If you don’t know his channel, you should really check it out.
Hi,
if changing the sensitivity in your module isn’t sufficient, you can edit your TD-50 MIDI Preset in the MIDI In/E-drums settings.
Select the drum in question and edit the Velocity Curve for the incoming MIDI.

Thanked by: Gert van DuinenI’ve had the same issues with my Roland TD-30 module going into SD 3.0 – I actually had just posted a separate new thread before I found this one. .
SD3 volume control is at the bottom right. I use a td30 and don’t have a problem and didn’t have to change my trigger settings as they were already optimised. What I did notice is that SD3 is quieter than SD2 so I had to up the overall output with the volume control.

I’m curious about your trigger settings of your TD-30 module. As I can’t say the trigger settings on my TD-50 were optimized for use with SD3
I agree, I am thinking that maybe a preset update needs to be made for the sensitivity issues.
But then I’m wondering how on earth can a preset be made when every module might be set with a wide variety of different trigger settings. A preset update can’t change the trigger settings on a module.
Which leads me to the following question: should all the trigger sensitivity settings on a module be set to either zero or to their highest values ?
So your trigger settings on your module should be set so that a loudest hit will send a midi velocity of 127. That is how they should be set anyway so you get a full range when playing internal sounds. If set correctly then you don’t need to do anything in SD3 as it will react to the velocity it receives in midi. This is not to do with the SD3 preset. It has no way of knowing anything but the velocity of the incoming midi information. It really is down to setting the module up correctly for your playing then SD3 should be fine. You can then try different velocity curves if that suites you. I just use the standard.
