    Hi,

is this with Superior Drummer 3.1.2?

So everything works as it should on your Mac but you don’t get all sounds when the drive is attache to your PC?
    No error messages from SD3?

    How is the drive formatted?
Did you perform the installation of the library on your Mac?
Which OS version do you have on your Mac?
Can you read all folders and content on the drive without problems in the Windows Explorer?

    Hi John,

I don’t use the same external drive for both computers.  I use a separate external hard drive formatted for my windows PC.  I think I solved the issue today when i deleted the entire SD3 library on my PC and re downloaded it as well as reinstalled it.  So far it’s working good on my windows 10 machine.  My mac has been running SD3 on Mac Mojave good from the start.

    OK,

good to hear. You didn’t get any error messages when you triggered drums with no sounds?

There were no error messages when triggered drums with no sounds.  Some drum sounds with the no sound problem were actually on the search for instruments twice, one would work and one wouldn’t.  One example was the default kit, the 2 toms had no sound but doing an instrument search revealed the toms that had no sound along side the ones that did –  9×13″  and  18×16″ Gretch to be exact.  And some cymbals were just not on the instrument list.  Odd, Something probably went wrong the first time installing the entire library?  This time i choose not to install the surround libraries since i didn’t use them.

So far all is good, thanks for responding.

I have kits that I had to load basic footprints on due to needing to get a new sed drive. And in some of those kits, the pieces aren’t sounding. I see the drums, but even clicking on them produces no sound? I vent tried them in a week so there is the slightest chance that they were still being archived into SSD’s buffers, but I doubt it. Is this normal to have small footprint loads not play certain drums? Also, do you guys feel a standard, 5600-7200 rpm usb drive for a mid 2010 cheese grater mac would be sufficient for drum libraries, and other libraries that are transient based? I am think of saving my 4 T of sed drive space for pianos and orchestras.

    Thanks love your product.

    Hi,

if you have Cached mode active, it can take a few hits for the sound to load. Other things to consider is if certain articulations are not loaded to reduce the memory footprint. A greyed out drum will not sound but in many cases trigger another drum, due to the substitute function.

Btw, did you check that the version you are using displays version 3.1.2 in the interface?

Since all samples are loaded into RAM, the choice of hard drive type affects the loading times, there is no disk streaming happening.

I am having a similar issue. This issue is specifically, related to the kit Bob Rock, Kit #1. By default, the kit loads with Cymbal 3 inactive (greyed out). When you trigger it, it triggers Cymbal 4. I then right click on Cymbal 3 and load a splash cymbal. I notice the memory increases and the cymbal image of a splash shows up. However, when I trigger the cymbal it moves, but no sound is heard.

If I do the same procedure on the SD3 default drum kit – (adding instrument to cymbal 3) the cymbal sound is hear. So, it seems to be specific to this kit?

I run SD3 off of two different Windows 10 computers – the problem exists the same way on both computers. I am running the latest version SD3 and Library files as well.

I have this same exact issue with the Bob Rock Kit and Cymbal 3.  Any help would be great.

    Hi,

hitting Cymbal 3 and Cymbal 4 producing sound, is the Substitution scheme taking place:

    https://www.toontrack.com/manual/superior-drummer-3/?type=manual_sd3&search=substitution

When you load a Cymbal in the ‘3’ position in this preset (which was saved disabled), you have to check its routing and see why it is not sounding.

If you check the Cymbals, their ‘close’ mic is the ‘OH Dyn’ which is totally turned down to zero in the mixer. It is also Hidden, so to see it you need to ‘Show All Channels’ in the Mixer.
The other Cymbals produce sound because they have Bleed Enabled in the ‘OH Cond’, ‘Front Height’ and ‘Rear Height’ channels.
I suggest you Enable the Bleed in those channels, alternatively raise the volume for the ‘OH Dyn’ channel but then the other Cymbals will have their total volume increased as well.

This is getting so frustrating. I saved a kit and settings from my last project. I load them up and now, I get sounds from the kick and splash but no other instruments even though they are being triggered from my drum machine and clicking on them using the mouse. I see level in the S3 mixer but still no sound. What is going on? I’ve spent half a day trying to get sound and nothing.

A day basically wasted and absolutely ZERO productivity.

    Hi Chris,
you can always ZIP your Project and attach it to a post here if you want us to have a look at it.

Things to check is if all instruments are routed to the expected microphones and outputs in the SD3 mixer and if there are instruments going directly to separate outputs, that may not be active in your monitoring path.

    John
