I am reaching out to you guys to explain the workflow I would like to do and what I am limited by with how it is set up.
Because my unassisted head timing is TERRIBLE, my ideal workflow would to be to start with a drum line, add guitar, bass, then vocals. To do this, I would like to load up my DAW (Reaper), open the EZDrummer plugin on my selected track, and lay down a simple groove in the plugin itself. I would like to do this because the I love the added functionality of having EZDrummer lay down extra beats, change power hand, generally just tinker with what I laid down for a while, then when I am pleased with it, drag it onto my DAW track. This ideal workflow for me is hampered by the simple fact that there is no way from what I can tell to activate a metronome to guide me during recording within EZDrummer when running as a plugin.
I would really want to avoid running the solo version of EZDrummer alongside my DAW with the plugin running (causes issues with my midi controller) and would really like to know if there is a way to activate metronome functions within the EZDrummer plugin itself.
Maybe there is some workaround I am missing and you guys can help me out.
Thanks a ton.
Hi,
the plugin itself does not have the metronome, it is only available in the standalone.
Why don’t you enable the Reaper metronome and record with the Reaper timeline running? If you set up a loop in Reaper, the EZdrummer 2 plugin track will follow.

I am able to do that. I can have the metronome in reaper keep time and record directly on the track in reaper itself but as far as I can tell, I cannot use the edit play style feature within EZ Drummer if I am editing and recording directly to the track in reaper itself, only if I am recording to the track within EZ Drummer itself, which I cannot do without a metronone function within the EZ Drummer plugin.
You can enable the metronome in Reaper, but still record the MIDI to the track of EZdrummer 2!

At this point I can only assume that there is something about my setup that is not like you guys setup. Maybe an installation problem. Let me ask it this way, one step at a time, when I activate the metronome in reaper, where should I press the record button, Reaper or EZdrummer.
The MIDI will be recorded where you enable record. If you enable record in Reaper, the MIDI will be recorded to the Reaper track. If you press record in EZdrummer 2, the MIDI will be recorded to EZdrummer 2. You can even record enable both EZdrummer 2 and Reaper, which will record into both places – not that common to want that though 🙂

I’m coming back to this old question again because I am once again frustrated trying to get such a simple thing working.
Running EZDrummer as a plugin in reaper.
I activate the metronome in reaper but when I press record in the plugin itself, no metronome plays. What am I doing wrong?
I do this in Studio One but the basic process should be the same regardless of the DAW
Mac Studio M1 Max, RAM 64 GB, 1TB Drive, OSX 12.x/13.x and Windows 10 (VM)
DAW: Studio One Pro (always up to date)
DTX Express III (Extreme triggers), Nektar LX88
OWC Thunderbay Mini (4 X 1TB Sata SSD), Express 4M2 (4 X 2TB M.2 SSD), Envoy Express (1TB M.2 SSD)
Presonus Quantum, Faderport & Faderport 8
Black Lion Sparrow Mk2 A/D, FMR-RNP-RNC, MIDI Xpress 128, BM5A, KRK VXT4, Equator D5
2020 Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Audio(mobile rig)
Hmm, that seemed to work.
It works kinda weirdly but at least it does work.
Thanks!
