“Help me Brad, you’re my only hope!”

I thought I’d start with something funny. So I was hoping you could help me. For some reason when I write a drum part on my M-Audio Keystation88, SD3 wont let me go back and fix anything in the “Grid Editor”. Let me see if I can explain it from the beginning. I went through this path. MIDI in/E-Drum settings > Select MIDI device > Select device (I selected Keystation 88). Now I can hear me playing the SD3 and I can even write over what I already laid down BUT here’s the thing. When I go to the bottom left and pick the “Block” button next to the track button to try to manually edit my performance, the mini window that pops up is shaded in grey and won’t let me pick “Grid Editor”. Can you help me solve this problem? Thank for you time man.

Yea I see it. You have to have one of the “blocks” highlighted/selected then that menu should be active. You can also double click one of the blocks and get Edit Style/Grid Editor tabs on a window. Hope this helps!

I’d like to trigger SD3 with my keyboard – within the DAW, if possible – while I’m playing along with other audio tracks.

I can trigger SD3 in standalone mode as explained above, but when SD3 is open in the DAW as a virtual instrument, I can’t get past the “waiting for MIDI” message.

Is it possible to do this?

Yes it is possible, but without knowing which DAW you use it is difficult to explain how.

I am using Digital Performer Version 10.

With Superior Drummer 3 open as a virtual instrument, I see activity in Digital Performer’s Midi Monitor when I play the keyboard  (see screenshot). But that is as far as I’ve been able to get.

So, from what I know of DP (and that’s not a lot), you need to create an instrument track, which it looks like you’ve done, and a MIDI track, which you assign the output to the instrument track.

    Has that been done?

    Thanks, that solved my issue.

I needed to create a MIDI track, assign it to Superior Drummer/correct MIDI channel.

Screenshot attached, maybe it can help someone else.
