Recently downloaded SD3.
Have created a midi track. Cymbals in all patches of SD3 choke out discriminately when I don’t want them to. That is, the same midi notes choke out, whilst others don’t.
I have made sure that the mute hit articulations are all off. When I play the note on my midi keyboard at full velocity for instance, it is fine. When I play it back in my DAW (logic) it chokes. This goes for any preset that I load.
When I bounce the track out, the same problem cymbal hits are choking out.
Can someone assist with this issue please?
See attached files for reference (mp3 and package).
Regards,
Ben
I checked out the Choking-cymbals.zip file. If you are referring to the notes on D2 in Logic’s Piano Roll then they play the Mute Hit on the instrument Cymbal 2 (the 16″ Zildjian), and the Mute Hits aren’t disabled in SD3. Move those notes one semi tone down, to C#2, to play the Crash articulation instead.
In the Choking-cymbals-updated.zip you have disbled the Mute Hit articulation, so when Superior tries to play it and noticing that it’s disabled, it will play the Crash articulation instead. That’s why it doesn’t sound muted in that version.
Does this clear things up?

Hi Henrik,
Thanks for your quick response. Apologies for uploading the wrong file initially with the mute hits not being disabled.
If you listen to the updated .mp3 towards the end of the file, you’ll hear the choking out of the cymbals, even though the note being played (D2) is exactly the same note being played earlier in the clip where the cymbals don’t choke out. Probably the most obvious example of this is the last note being played.
Any other ideas?
Cheers,
Ben
Ah ok, now I see your problem 🙂
If you in Logic’s Piano Roll show the Channel Pressure, you’ll see that you have Channel Pressure values to the end of the file. Channel Pressure is comonly used in e-drums to trigger a mute by squeezing a cymbal.
You can disable this feature in SD3 by in the Drums tab showing the property box called “Mute Tail Trigger”. You may need to select it in the Show menu in top right corner to be able to see it. In the box, disable Aftertouch (which is another name for Channel Pressure).
You can also remove all muting by removing the Channel Pressure values in Logic 🙂

Thanked by: BenthebakerYou’re a legend.
The Channel Pressure is what the problem was. Removing the automation fixed it. Disabling aftertouch didn’t seem to work.
Thanks for your help!
Ben
Nice to hear 🙂 If you’d like, you can mark my reply as the answer, so it’s visible for others that the problem is solved.
Rock on!
