    Hi,

the SD3 plugin, standalone app and presets are always installed on your system drive. The only plugin file that can be Custom Installed is the VST plugin.
If your library is on an SSD drive, you set the drive type to SSD. There is no drive type setting for the plugin files.

16 GB should be fine in general. Massive kits eat up more RAM, of course. PT 12 itself needs some and depending on how you have your disk playback cache set, a big Session demands RAM as well.

Are you sure it is SD3 crashing PT 12? Which version number is displayed in the SD3 AAX plugin (lower left corner)? Which PT 12 version?

    BR,
    John

    Thx John
Its’ a newly installed SD3 V 3.1.2. with the SSD drive updated from SD2. Specs; PT 12.5.2. iMac 2011 i5, 16 GB RAM. I’ve found that using some more recent third party software instruments together can cause problems for PT. For instance Vienna Instruments with several other instruments. Arturia V series is a big problem making it most unusable, even by itself. Sd2 was never a problem in itself but I assumed SD3 was just pushing CPU over the limit and that I might need 8 GB in each of the 4 available slots to cope if I am running 3 powerful software instruments simultaneously. Either that or PT has buggy issues which is quite believable. I have tweaked buffer sizes but it doesn’t make a noticeable difference.

    OK,

any special reason you still are on PT 12.5.2?
E.g. 12.6.1 had a bug fix for Crashes when dragging and dropping MIDI to an Instrument Track. There has been a lot of other fixes, like Delay Compensation related for multi-output plugins, etc. in later versions as well.

BTW, do you have the CPU cores set to ‘1’ in the SD3 settings? If not please set it to ‘1’.

    BR,
    John
