Having come to SD3 from BFD, I have found the effects in SD far superior (perhaps, pun intended), as well as the overall recording of the Core Library (sounds like music, rather than bombastic noise). I find that I only need to use my UAD plug-ins at the end of the drum mix (one drum mix didn’t even need it… it sounded great with SD’s plug-ins). I’ve gotten some really good results from SD.

Yes – I do…

Still on learning curve with SD3 (recent convert from EZD2) haven’t broken out to individual DAW channels yet so mixing everything in SD3 mixer. I don’t profess to be an expert but the stock mixer & plugins are just fine for now as I feel my way in but eventually I expect to route to console channels in my DAW (Studio One).

I have some questions, which I’ll post as separate threads…

I think the plugins I have are much better overall. I hear wierd distortion or big in the audio sometimes with the superior plugins. I also understand my plugins better. In an ideal world Superior would support using VSTs in the mixer.
I would however prefer to just have a preset ready to go and tweak from it. I’m still searching though. I think if Superior was better at merging the Snare from one preset into the toms from another preset it would make my life easier. Right now the way it does it has major issues.

I route everything out and mix in Logic with a blend of Soundtoys, SSL Native and Sonnox plugs. I am sure it could all be done ‘in house’ in Sup3 – I’m just used to working this way and also used to the plugs I use and how they react to what I’m feeding them.

I didn’t use them to start with but after listening to some of the presets and trying them out I must admit they are really good. The great thing about them is they work really well with drums so it’s not all searching round for a great sound.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
