I am totally new to the superior drummer software and have only just recently purchased SD3.
I recently found an online tutorial which produces a great drum tone using the SD2, N.Y. Avatar kit, with specific instructions regarding compression/EQ/etc designed specifically around that kit. I’d like to be able to achieve this drum tone and play around with it, but I notice that there is no N.Y. Avatar kit on SD3. From what I’ve read online it seems like the N.Y. Avatar kit was one of the default kits in SD2, so I’m surprised to see that it is not even an option in SD3. (Wouldn’t users updating from SD2 to SD3 want these same kits to still be available as an option, considering all of their hard work creating mixing/EQ settings.)
Perhaps I am missing something obvious, -if so please let me know. Otherwise, where do I find the N.Y. Avatar kit as a SD3 user? Would it be in one of the New York Expansion packs? …Volume 2 or Volume 3?
Thanks!
You’re right, the Avatar drumset is the default kit in Superior Drummer 2. (AKA core library supplied with SD2) I think this is not available as separate SDX expansion product. You can consider to buy the full version of Superior drummer 2 and Superior Drummer 3 upgrade. I use this setup and works perfect.
The Avatar mix settings are also available after upgrading from SD2 to SD3 with the same sound.
Thanks for your reply.
Well, I’ve already purchased SD3, which cost approx $399. I’d rather not go through the trouble of returning SD3, just to purchase SD2 with the SD3 upgrade. But you’re saying that with the price of SD2 ($199) plus the upgrade (~$200) I would be getting more kits/options even though the total price of SD3 alone would be the same. This situation just seems so counter-intuitive. Is that really true? There must be some other way of accessing a default kit from SD2?
As said it was the stock kit with SD2. SD3 is much higher quality with a lot of kits better than Avatar. There really would be no reason to put inferior kits on that don’t compare with the ones provided. I don’t use any of the old kits now. I only use the ones that came with SD3 because they are so much better.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Hello Mark. Thanks for your info on Avatar and SD3. I was on the lookout for some extension packs for SD3. I bought quite a few EZx kits in the past for EZdrummer 2; do you have any further opinions, and especially SD3 add-on buying advice? This as i am more into the other stuff than just pop and rock kits. J
It will open any ezx packs and any SDX packs. Take a look on the Toontrack site as there are plenty of audio examples on the pages for the packs. There are no specific packs out yet for SD3. It does have percussion and electronic sounds as well as the acoustic kits.
