Hello folks,
I am so impressed with the SD3, and I am having a great time figuring out how to trigger SD3 with my Roland TD-50 kit. Most things are in place now except for the digital ride (CY-18DR). Roland’s new (or at least improved) positional sensing technology works as a charm on the new digital snare drum triggering all the SD3 articulations I want. (“Edge”, “Mid Center” and “Center”). The same positional sensing is implemented on the digital ride but I am not able to get it to work in SD3. I want to use the sensor to distinguish between “Bow Tip” and “Bow Shank” in SD3. I am only able to get one of them to work. Have a look at this great YouTube video made by Mike Luke:

He explains how to do this in SD3, but I think he is using a CY-15R cymbal. I am doing exactly as he shows but cant get it to work. I can see in my TD-50 module that the positional sensing is working. Any help would have been greatly appreciated!
I am having the same issue CY18DR, TD50, positional sensor not premapped in the manner that the Digital Snare is premapped. I’d like to see this so I can get the best out of SD3.
Any answers? This is pretty old.

Hi Toontrack.
Any response to this topic? – I have the same combo and lack positional assignement on the digital ride in SD3 as the other posters..
Thanks.

Hi,
though far from an expert on the newer Roland gear, I think that the positional sensing on the Ride requires SD3 to receive one Zone trigger note and the positional sensing data to place the articulation, like with the Snare.
Currently, SD3 receives separate notes for the different Ride articulations, so I guess it would require either the module to send separate notes (like Rides normally do) or an update to the SD3 software to be able to set up a Trig Zone for the Ride.

You can set up a CC-controlled split in the E-drum tab. I don’t know whether any of the presets do that for you.
I believe cymbals all send positional sensing data as CC17 and you can have more than one in your kit. That’s why our support for positional sensing of cymbals differs from that of the snare.

Thanked by: Kurt FFollowing this topic as well, and planning to buy similar gear.
Is there any difference between the digital snare positional sensing to the regular positional sensing that Roland offer when connecting it to the SD3 software?
( I understand that there is a big difference when using the module itself. But since practically the module doesn’t work when you connect it to the computer, I wonder if there is any use to invest in better module)
Hello,
Thanks for bringing this up. I too am looking to have my positional sensing operational on the Digital Roland ride.
Thanks in advance for any info!
