I saw somewhere that you could move all your files, and just re-point SD3 to that new locations.
For the SDX sample packs, that was easy…I copied them to the new location and then just edited the paths to reflect that.
I’m not having any luck with the EZX/MIDI stuff.
I see in SD3 that the EZX path can’t even be edited. There’s a grayed-out “EDIT” button, and when you click over it, the pop-up says “the path can not be edited for the this version”. What version…?…SD3, or is it referring to the installed version of EZD…?
I currently have EZD1, SD2 and SD3 installed on my computer. the EZD1 was first, and very soon after installing it, I bought SD2, so I never used EZD1 after that.
I’m wondering if that initial, default installation location for EZD1 is somehow holding all my EZX and MIDI packs “hostage”…and that’s why I can’t just move their folder to the same new location as my SDX stuff…?
I’m also wondering if I uninstalled EZD1 and left the EZX/MIDI stuff alone…would I then be able to move those EZX/MIDI folders…or…do I have to uninstall EZD1 and all my EZX and MIDI packs (that would suck)…and then reinstall just the EZX/MIDI packs in the new location with my SDX…?
I get the feeling that EZD1 can only go in the same “default” location where it is now, so I won’t be able to reinstall it if I want to have more control of where my EZX/MIDI stuff goes (but frankly, I don’t care about reinstalling EZD1…just the EZX/MIDI packs).
I don’t think I need to have a version of EZD installed in order to install the EZX/MIDI packs with SD2 & 3…do I?
I can live with the EZD/EZX/MIDI stuff even staying where it is now…and I’ll just move my SDX packs to the new location, that way my C: drive will get some breathing room…but I was hoping to keep all my drum packs consolidated in one place, on a dedicated large HD just for them…rather than having them scattered, some here, some there…etc.
Hi,
as you’re on Windows and do not have EZdrummer 2, I think the easiest way would be to uninstall all drum sample player plugins (not the sounds!) and EZplayer Pro.
Next, you can re-install the Superior 3 plug-in and perform a Custom install. Then you should be presented with the option to set the location for your ‘EZHOME’ repository, i.e. where all your Toontrack MIDI and EZdrummer EZX:s will be installed, e.g. ‘(Large drive) E:Toontrack’.
When this is done, you should be able to move the entire ‘EZdrummer’ folder from your system, located either @ ‘C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesToontrackEZDrummer’ or ‘C:Program Files (x86)ToontrackEZDrummer’ to your external drive, in the example above: ‘(Large drive) E:Toontrack’.
The next time you start SD3, it should pick up the MIDI and EZX:s correctly.

OK…that’s not too involved of an option, just the plugs…kinda’ what I thought would need to happen.
I saw this thread about the same thing…do you think this is as effective and safe, using the Registry Editor?
https://www.toontrack.com/forum/superior-drummer-3-help/ezdrummer-content-path-edit-button-grayed-out-cannot-change-midi-directory/
It looks like it should work the same and is a quick edit, just want to make sure that it doesn’t leave any other “artifacts” in the Registry Editor that could cause issues.
I was thinking anyway about leaving the MIDI in the existing EZD directory…and just moving all my sample packs to the dedicated drive (it’s actually an additional internal drive, not external).
If I go with the plug uninstall…can I leave the MIDI files where they are, and move just the sample packs? I assume the EZD folder will stay even after I uninstall the EZD plug…?
Hi,
1. Registry editing is never supported unless explicitly advised by a Toontrack programmer in a specific situation, so you’d be ‘on your own’, so to speak.
2. The ‘EZHOME’ location is for Toontrack MIDI and EZdrummer 1/2 EZX:s. It is one location, it cannot be split into several.
Uninstalling the plug-in(s) will not erase the ‘EZdrummer’ folder.

I’ll go with your plugin uninstall suggestion…won’t mess with the Key.
It’s not a problem for me to keep the MIDI and sample packs together…I just wondered if they could be separated.
