I keep all my EZX libraries on SSDs for use with my main setup and have them copied to portable drives for use when traveling. It’s been a while and I’ve forgotten how to get them to show up in EZ Drummer on my MacBook pro. Only the two standard libraries show up there. When I go to the toontrack product manager, the only option is to download the ezxs, but I just want to point EZ Drummer to the libraries on the portable drives. How is that done?
thanks!!
Hi,
if you see this FAQ:
http://www.toontrack.com/faq/how-do-i-move-the-sounds-for-ezdrummer-2/
you see the location of the folder that needs to be moved, or rather deleted in your case.

thanks John. So in my case i should delete that folder and then… it will ask to locate the sounds folder? can i also point it to the midi libraries which i keep in the location (i think that’s done in the setup>midi area?)
Yes, you will be asked to locate the ‘EZdrummer’ folder, containing all your EZX:s and Toontrack Midi. The only pointing to Midi you can do is if you have your own User Midi folders you wish to add but Toontrack Midi will be picked up automatically, since it resides inside the ‘EZdrummer’ folder structure.

thanks again john. regarding the midi, on my main setup I have all the midi in a folder within the folder that houses the ezxs. should it be outside that folder? on my main setup i’ve had some issues with getting adding the third party folder to the ‘include in searches’ in the setup sectio i think it says something like “cannot be added because this is where you’re ezx libraries are kept”. something like that.

No, that is correct when it comes to Toontrack MIDI and 3rd party Toontrack formatted MIDI that installs into that folder – it needs to be exactly where it is in the ‘EZdrummer’ folder structure.
MIDI that you add to your User Libraries list, can reside outside that structure and EZdrummer will mount when you start EZdrummer 2.

thanks. so should i keep the third party midi outside of the folder that holds the ezxs and the toontrack midi? it seems that when i tried to add the third party kristi to the search function it was saying it couldn’t do that because it was in the same location as the toontrack midi
3rd party MIDI installed into the EZdrummer folder structure by an installer, should show up in the Browser and be listed in Settings > MIDI Libraries.
Something already in that structure cannot be added again to the User libraries.
A subfolder to the ‘My Midifiles’ folder is also already in the structure and should be visible in the Browser and included in Searches, if the main folder is.

i I’ve got some additional questions regarding folder structure for Midi Files. I’m adding it here, not sure if I should start a new topic for this.
I keep my Toontrack Sounds and Midi on an external SSD, and am copying it to a new SSD for my travel setup and wanted to clean it all up so it can all be copied, as well as cleaning up the current arrangement as well. I’m finding that sometimes opening EZ Drummer, it churns for a while, andI think the messy location structure of the mid info may be causing this.
The locations are as follows.
SSD> Toontrack> EZ Drummer>Midi
This folder holds what looks to be all the Midi for the installed EZ Drummer libraries. But there are some third party folders in there as well. In the EZ Drummer Midi Libraries Setting pane they are listed individually under Third-Party
SSD> Toontrack> EZ Drummer>Midi>My Midifiles
This folder holds most of my third party (Groove Monkee/Odd Groves, etc) Midi folders
Internal HD>Users>Me>Music>EZ Drummer>User Midi
This folder seems to hold some files I may have marked as favorites within Ez Drummer? Not many, 10 or so individual files (not folders)…
I’d love to find out what the proper arrangement is for all this. And once I’ve done that, how would I reset(?) the paths in EZ Drummer, let it scan everything correctly and remove any old pathways?
Additionaly, can the User Midi folder be located in this folder on the SSD, so it can be moved with everything else?
I’m attaching a screenshot of the Midi Libraries pane in Settings, if that’s any help….
thanks again!
Doug
Hi,
it seems like all is as it should be to me. The User MIDI folder will still have to be where it is on the Internal HD, even if you move the ‘EZHOME’ (EZdrummer) location.
If you move the ‘EZdrummer’ folder to a new HD, you will be prompted to locate it when you launch EZdrummer 2.
What you can do in the Settings is, select e.g. ‘My MIDI files’ like in your screen shot and then click the drop down arrow and ‘Sync File changes’ if you have updated the contents of the folder.

Thanks John. Can I move those other midi folders in the User Folder, to the folder on the external, keeping them all together?
If EZ Drummer is taking a while to get going every time I load it up, would it be good to unlink everything, and let it do all the scanning again for a fresh start?
And the User Folder I would need to copy to the laptop external separately if I want those, it sounds like?
Hi,
the User MIDI I’m talking about is those files you see when you open the User MIDI panel in the Browser, those 10 or so individual files you mentioned above.
While you can open that folder and copy the files to the ‘My MIDI files’ folder inside the ‘EZdrummer/Midi/’ structure, this particular folder itself will remain on your system drive.
As I have mentioned earlier, any other folder outside the ‘EZdrummer/Midi/’ structure can be added as User MIDI Libraries and scanned.
I suspect rebuilding and relinking won’t make much of a difference but I guess you can try it if you want to.
If you do so, go to the Settings>MIDI Libraries and Remove any added folders under User Libraries.
Go to the EZdrummer Menu > Advanced > Restore Factory MIDI Database.
When it’s done, go back to Settings>MIDI Libraries and add folders to User Libraries (if you wish to) and decide whether or not 3rd party and/or User Libraries should be included in Search.

John
