Using EZDrummer 2
1) I am using the Modern Studio Blues Kit in a current project. When I access the tom sample choices, it only offers two toms, yet the overall EZD2 sound library has many more than two tom samples. Is there any way to access ALL of the tom samples within any kit? Or am I stuck with what they have decided to be available for that particular kit?
2) The toms are really loud in the overhead mics. I have the drum track routed to multiple tracks and thereby have a separate tom level, but the toms are so loud in the overhead track, that I cannot get the mixing control I need. Is there any way to reduce the toms in the overhead, but not affect the level of the cymbals?
If these are not possible in EZD2, would they be possible in Superior Drummer? I may upgrade to SD2 soon anyway, but would like to know.
Much appreciated
Tim
Hi,
the Rack Tom 1 & 3 position has got 2 instrument choices in the Modern library, the other ones has got 3.
You can e.g. load the Gretsch USA Custom in a position where it isn’t sampled and pitch it, i.e. the Rack Tom 1 & 3 position.
You can turn the Mic Bleed OH down on the mixer page to lower the level of other drums than the Cymbals in the OH.
Superior 2 gives you far more control over each instrument’s pitch, envelope, general level, bleed through the available microphones, etc.
It will extend the capabilities of mixing drums from different libraries but it will not dig out any other drums from your current library, i.e. nothing’s “hidden”.

Thanks John
I already tried the OH mic bleed, but it doesn`t really lower the toms very much.
It is too bad that the program is not designed to allow access to ALL toms from every kit. I`ll probably try copying just the tom midi notes to another track and then open up a different kit to access other toms.
I’m not sure I understand:

Do you mean that you wish to load Toms from other libraries? It is indeed possible but you can’t load an instrument that doesn’t correspond to the current position, i.e. you can’t load a Cymbal instead of Rack Tom 1.
You can switch libraries where you switch sounds, see attached screen shot.

Thanks John. Yes, that is exactly what I was asking. I am relatively new with EZD2 and hadn’t realized that I could just simply click on that drop arrow and access the other toms from other libraries. We weren’t happy with the two tom choices we had for this session with the Studio Blues kit, but now I am hoping that I can find something in the other libraries that suits our needs.
