I have EZ1 for several sessions and received an upgrade offer. If I upgraded to Version 2, would I still be able to use version 1 ?
The EZDrummer2 Upgrade will replace the EZD1 in your sessions. Provided you install EZD2 over EZD1 and don’t uninstall ezd1 first.

That´s not good at all and I do not really comprehend why I´d loose version 1 after upgrade – I have purchased it, so I would like to keep it ! ????
I don’t understand the problem. You don’t loose the sound libraries or the MIDI from EZD1. The EZD1 kits load in the new EZD2 interface and sound the same. If you upgrade and open the project that had EZD1 in it, it plays back exactly the same, just in the EZD2 interface.

Sorry, but I do not understand. How would it sound the same ? Isn´t vers1 using 16 bit samples and vers 2 24 bit ? So no improvement of sound with new version ? There might not be a huge difference, you know, every session would have to be mixed again to get the “exact” original result again -maybe?!
Ok.
The original sounds in EZD1 will load in the EZD2 plugin. The sounds will not change just because the sampler changed from EZD1 to EZD2.
That’s the exact reason the EZD2 plugin replaces EZD1. It allows you to open projects that have EZD1 loaded without the need to remix everything in the new EZD2.
The sample rate of the original EZD1 libraries won’t change just because they are loaded in EZD2. The 16-bit libraries will be 16-bit in EZD2.

I am finding this to not be the case at all. I did the upgrade and when I loaded a song recorded in Cubase 6 on a PC it would not play the EZDrummer midi track. I would get an error screen saying that the sound files could not be found (the original Pop/Rock files). The midi track was there so I was able to use Rock sound files from expansion kit. Also, when I open EZDrummer in Cubase 6 I get the original interface instead of EZDrummer 2 which I find odd. I’ve updated the plug-in information but it makes no difference.

Was the original ezdrummer.dll moved after it was first installed? Like from one folder to a Steinberg VST folder?

It might have been. It is in the VST folder in a subfolder (Toontrack). No other .dll file is in a subfolder.

If it was manually moved then the EZD2 installer wouldn’t be able to overwrite the EZD1 plugin.
Can you search your computer for any ezdrummer.dll and delete them? Then reinstall the latest EZD2 update. You may need to set the path in Cubase to where the EZD2 plugin gets installed. See the FAQ below.

I’ll give that a try. I updated yesterday but my .dll is older than yesterday so it must not have updated.

If you installed EZD2 but still have the EZD1 interface, it obviously didn’t update. And, like I said, you most likely have 2 .dlls installed.

Okay, found my problem. Way back when I must have originally set my first kit up as 32 bit when I was using Cubase 4 LE and therefore my original EZDrummer.dll had been saved in programs and that was the default folder. When I switched my .dll stayed in the old folder even though EZDrummer was moved to programs (x86) folder. That must be why I copy and moved the .dll file way back when. It wasn’t problem until I upgrade. I now have the new interface and my old sounds now work again. Thanks Scott.
