just purchased ezdrummer 2 with the nashville ex pack. very nice sounds, dig the nashville set!
I own several other drum programs, but what I noticed right away with ezdrummer is that it adds some kind of white noise at the end of every hit. It differs from drum to drum. When played more drums at the same time the noise floor rises.
Anything I can do to get rid of this? sometimes it bothers me and sometimes not.
Im running Macbook Pro osx 10.9.4 with Pro Tools 11 HD Native Thunderbolt, HD I/O 16*16
Thanks
Any particular library?
The EZdrummer libraries include processing like compression that can increase the noise from the hardware that was used in the recording. The vintage kit in EZD 2 was recorded through a REDD desk that has plenty of ‘hair’ in the sound.
I haven’t found any library to be a problem in a mix.

yes its many but the first one called “basic”. when you open up ezdrummer. you can hear a long decay of noise on the kick, and some on the snare. If you play a groove with both kick and snare you can hear a noise buildup that is constant, even if you play soft or loud with the keyboard and its the same noise-sound in both modern and vintage presets. Also if you play the kick many times in a row at a low velocity the noise is almost as high as the kick itself.Ive done lots of drum recordings with hi end and noisy gear but never experienced that kind of noise. But the sounds are AWESOME so I don’t want to complain or anything. It was just an observation as I compared it with addictive drums which is totally quiet in comparison. And I checked out their fairfax set that is recorded very old school to tape. would be awesome if there was a fix to get rid of the noise. Thanks
A lot of the best sounding desks and equipment have inherent levels of noise and when producing a sound library choices have to be made on how to deal with this. It is relatively easy to edit the samples so there is no apparent noise by fading them quickly; however this can have the negative effect of cutting the resonance of the drums and destroying the natural ambience in the overhead and room mics.
You can adjust the fade times of the samples in Superior 2 and I have attached an mp3 file demonstrating the differences between the natural fade of EZdrummer 2 ‘Basic’ preset and the same preset played in S2 with a more extreme fade. Hopefully Toontrack have got the balance right between allowing the drums to breathe and keeping noise levels low enough so they don’t intrude in real world situations.

Your best bet is to buss the room and overhead mics out to your DAW and insert noise gates. You’ll need to experiment so that you don’t cut off the decay of the drums but it can be done.
FWIW, the Envelope Filters in Superior 2.4 are far more effective so that’s always an option. Good luck!
