Hello,
First of all: congratulations on EZ Drummer 2 – it’s awesome! Now to my question. I apologize if it’s been asked and answered earlier – I can imagine it’s an issue people have dealt with earlier, but I couldn’t find it (or didn’t know where to look…).
It happens to me a lot: I randomly browse through all my EZ Drummer Midi Files, find one I like and get inspired. I don’t want to go through the hassle of creating a complete drumtrack (with intro, chorus, fills etc) because I don’t want to lose the inspiration, so I just drag and drop the file I like (e.g. Songwriters Pack/Ballad/Straight 4/4/Push Ballad 74 BPM/Verse/Variation 2) a couple of times in my DAW (Cubase). I record some guitar, bass and keys over it and somehow leave it for a couple of days.
Then I come across the song again and get more inspiration: it would be nice to use some fills, records a chorus et cetera. I just can’t remember which EZ drummer midi-file I used in the first place, which is a pity because there are all kinds of fills already especially made for this song. Is there a way to retrieve that information? Usually I make a note in Cubase which midi file I used, but sometimes, in the inspirational hurry, I forget.
Secondly, related: I love the ‘Tap to Find’-feature, but have trouble locating the file that came up. Whenever I tap in something, and find something I like, it’s usualy a part of something bigger – a song structure. But the only thing I get is a name, and that is very hard to find back if you’ve got a lot of EZX’s, like me. For example: it’s entirely possible I get the ‘Variation 2’-file as a result, but how do I know that it’s part of the Songwriters Pack/Ballad/Straight 4/4/Push Ballad 74 BPM/Verse-‘family’? It would make building the rest of my song a lot easier!
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
if you keep a copy of your dropped MIDI files on the Song Track, you will be able to just right-click them and select ‘Show in Browser’.
You can also try importing the parts to your EZdrummer Song Track and right-click to ‘Search with Tap2Find’ and then show the top result(s) in the Browser.
EDIT: I am rephrasing this a bit to not confuse you and other users.
For EZdrummer 2 users, the above info is valid. For EZdrummer 1 users searching the Forum for info on the naming nomenclature and finding this post, the following older posts may provide useful info:

When you find a file with Tap2Find, you can right click on a file in the search results and select “Show in Browser”. This will show you the structure the file origins from.

Thanks guys – I knew it couldn’t be all that difficult. I will try your suggestions!
Just to let you know: I just tried your suggestion and it didn’t work. The problem: how do you copy a miditrack from the DAW (Cubase 7 Elements) on to the Songtrack? Drag and drop doesn’t work. I could try to import the midifile, but I haven’t got a clue as to where Cubase hides that info.
The good news: I found a really easy way around all that, that works like a charm: simply set Cubase to start the song at the bar you want to find back, click record on the Song Track and then click the Play button in Cubase: EZ Drummer records that bar. Then right click on the recorded bar, click Find and Search with Tap2Find and voila: found!
Btw: the links to other Forum posts weren’t very helpful: I got an ‘Access denied’-message because apparently the posts were about Superior Drummer, which I don’t have…
Thanks for the info!
Anyone know about doing this with Superior Drummer 2?
