When I use the Nashville kit with EZdrummer running as a VSTi within Fl Studio, I notice that the open hi hats produce a pumping sound. The hi hat hit is loud at first and then quickly drops in volume. It is as if the hi hat is being cut off. When I use the Pop/Rock kit, the open hi hats sound perfect (i.e., they ring out without any abrupt drop in volume). If anyone can provide advice on this issue, I would appreciate it. I would like to use the Nashville kit, but right now I am limited to the Pop/Rock kit becasue of this issue.
thanks!
Is the hi hat MIDI being programmed or are you using pre programmed MIDI? Is there a closed hi hat hit following an open one?

Hi Scott. I’m using preprogrammed midi from the EZDrummer software and all of the hits are open hi hats.
Can you give us an example groove that sounds like this please?

Here are two recordings of the same midi pattern, one using the Nashville kit and the other using the Pop/Rock kit. The hi hat in the Pop/Rock kit sounds natural to me. Hopefully, though, you can hear the pumping sound of the hihat in the Nashville kit. When I open the piano roll in FL Studio and click on one of the hi hat hits, it rings out very naturally. But when I play the entire midi pattern, I get the pumping sound. Thanks for your help with this.
The files are stored on soundcloud at the following link:
Sorry, I meant the groove names/locations. What name has your DAW assigned to the MIDI item/clip that drives this sound (may look like it’s in code).
But leave the audio up so we can compare with what we get…

I looked at the clip in FL Studio, but I’m not sure how to find the name. Can you provide more specifics?
I can tell you what midi grooves I used from EZDrummer. I am having the problem with the following grooves:
Pop/rock library
4/4 straight 50-140 BPM
Groove 1 (or any of the grooves)
Variation: 8th half open or 8th rock open
When I play any of these grooves with the Pop/rock kit, the open hi hats sound natural. But when I play them with the Nashville kit, they produce a pumping sound. Is this just a limitation of trying to use the Nashville kit to play grooves from the Pop/rock library?
Thanks again for your help with this.
I’m really sorry SB, but after all that I realised I don’t have the Nashville EZX, I have the Music City SDX.
I’ll see if I can get tis EZX and help you further, I’m not getting the effect (as you confirmed) using the Pop/Rock kit.
Edit: Using EZD Pop/rock library; 4/4 straight 50-140 BPM; Pop/Rock; Groove 1; Variation: Hats 8th rock open (EPD_P_G01_12H – L@12._Hats_8th_Rock_Open), I can get a pumping HH sound, but it is due to the odd 1/8 notes using note 60 (HH Open Max), which is the intended effect.
This is emphasised using my Music City USA SDX (which I believe was the same sessions that Nashville EZX came from) compared to the Pop/Rock EZX. Pop/Rock has more stick “click”, whereas Music City is nearly all hat “slurp” of the different open levels.
This is also noticeable using the Variation: Hats 8th Half Open (EPD_P_G01_10H – J@10._Hats_8th_Half_Open) as is rattles between the open1, open2 and open3 articulations, although not as pronounced as the Rock Open one.
This is sort of what Scott was asking with closed hat articulations following open ones. Is this what you are hearing I wonder? Apologies if I’m barking up the wrong tree 🙂

I’m afraid I still can’t get your Soundcloud link to work.
Do you need to be registered to hear it?
