Hi,
I am missing detailed hihats in EZDrummer and the expansions. I need not only open and closed hat but also opened hats that are closing (ideally with the possibility to control the speed of the closing).
Also 1/3 open and 2/3 open hh.
Actually I did expect this as this is standard repertoire of any drum kit. The absence makes it incomplete.
So I`d like to propose this as a future addition. If your policy is to include those only in Superior Drummer then I propose you think this over. The standards should be covered.
I wouldn`t mind if there was an extra kit only with hihats and a few extra non-standard things:
Tambourine hit with sticks, rimshots (that`s also pretty standard), hits with the sticks on the metal parts on the sides of drums, hits on various positions on cymbals.
Actually, EZDrummer (POP/ROCK) has the following levels of openness:
Tight
Closed
Open 1
Open 2
Open 3
Open 4
These all have their own MIDI key assigned and can be played
directly but you can also use CC-control (hihat foot pedal) to
control the level of openness and just hit the same ‘pad’
all the time. Using the latter method you can choose to
open or close your hihat at any time, ringing hits will
‘transmute’ accordingly. Using the direct method you will
have to hit one of the articulations, e.g. Closed, in order
to change the state of the hihat but ringing hits will transmute
in this case too.
These are all played at the edge of the hihat. You also get
bow hits:
TightTip
ClosedTip
that can be used in a similar manner but you have to make do
with the edge hits for the open levels.
There are two foot stomp articulations
Pedal Closed
Pedal Open
which correspond to chicks and splashes respectively.
There are also two articulations with recorded sequences,
though nobody seems to know what they are for 😉
All in all 12 different articulations for the hihat. The expansions
follow the same system and general MIDI mapping though
the actual number of of levels of openness may vary as
may the support for bow and bell hits.

I’m trying EZDrummer Lite (1.3.1) and have setup my module to trigger Midi note 11 for “HH Edge” and note 12 for “HH Bow” and CC 4.
Using Midi Monitor, I can see that the correct CC messages are sent, and EZDrummer’s “Midi” icon lights up.
But, I can only hear closed hi-hat sounds. But, if I press the foot pedal down while hitting the HH, I get somewhat of an open sound.
Have also tried to run this inside Solo, with options “E-drums” and “CC Offset”, but same result. Can only hear the closed sound.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Andrej
BTW: I’ve used the same setting, only with different note values, for Addictive Drums Demo, and that supports all articulations, including
foot splash and chick.
Hi,
using EZdrummer (Lite) with Toontrack solo and the E-drums Controller Option will only work if your module is at its factory settings. You are not triggering the right notes for proper use of the HH. 11 and 12 would both be triggering the Closed Edge.

Ok, thanks. But what notes should I be triggering to get HH articulation using CC messages? And preferrably in Studio One rather than Solo.
Thx
Andrej
Well,
EZdrummer never has been supported for E-drum use unless it is together with Toontrack solo.
If you want to live on the dangerous and unsupported side of things, you could always try with note # 7 and 8 instead.
