Q. I was watching a tutorial on EZ Player and I am a little confused about something.
According to the video…….. when I load a midi file into EZ Player from my own files…… I can use the MiDI wrap function to tell EZ Player the source drum sampler that recorded or created the midi data…….so I select say EZ drummer or Addictive drums etc.
Does this apply the other way round?
Let me explain…….
When laying down live drums in studio I usually create an instrument track in ProTools 10.2 and insert EZ drummer in it as the drum sampler to produce the drum sounds.
I use an Alesis trigger I/O and have a map created in it on a preset to map to the EZ drummer keyboard layout.
I use EZ for all live E-kit recording as I can run at low buffer sizes an keep the latency down. I then use Superior, Strike or Addictive drums on the mix when I have the buffer size increased but I normally have to manually remap or write a map to make the recorded kit data play back correctly within the destination plugin as their mapping or keyboard layout is different!!!
Now, when I export the midi data from my recorded midi track (which contains data in EZ drummer keyboard layout map format) into EZ player I select EZ drummer as the midi wrap in order to tell EZ Player which plugin created the data so it can remap accordingly. Am I correct in my thinking as to how this works?
After I edit the file to my liking should I wish to export the file for use in say Addictive drums or STRIKE for some reason instead of SP2 or EZ drummer is it possible to wrap the midi file to the intended outgoing plugin format? or it’s midi layout map?
I edit stuff for other studios here regularly enough. I may be requested to change the format to suit from one drum sampler to another for use in another studio where mixing might take place for example. Their engineer may request it for use with STRIKE.
You get me?
I can write a midi map manually but if EZ Player did this for me it would be great!!!!!!!!
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance!!
There is a ‘MAP WRAP’ menu somewhere to the left. It contains the outgoing
MIDI transforms. ‘Strike’ is available.

Hi, thanks for getting back so soon!!!!
From what the video said I thought it meant you wrap the file to tell EZ Player what plugin created the data being imported.
I thought it might only be re-mapping to suit Superior or EZ midi map.
So it will convert to any outgoing format for sure?
Yes, EZplayer has input transforms as well but they are specified
for each imported folder with MIDI. So EZplayer can translate
between a large number of MIDI mappings.

Thanks,
I have EZ Player setup like this……… same as the manual:
1) Inserting the plugin:
• Insert the EZplayer plugin on a Mono Instrument Track
2) Setting up:
• Create an Instrument Track with YFDS instantiated on
• Enable the ‘Instruments’ section view (lower left corner of the mixer window)
• At the top of the Pro Tools mixer, access the MIDI I/O for the Instrument Tracks
• Set the MIDI Input of your YFDS Instrument Track to ‘EZplayer’
• Record-arm the Instrument Track YFDS is inserted on
• In EZplayer, choose the appropriate MIDI Output format for YFDS
• Select a groove in EZplayer and press Play
Does this mean I actually have to record the filtered format drum data onto the YFDS track (strike)?
It is playing back from EZ player into strike but do I have to record the data into strike’s instrument track by doing a record pass or can I simply EXPORT the data in strike format an a drag and drop? In other words once the wrap is enabled does it apply to any drag and drop to another track?
Also you say that there are wraps for inout folder………are these set by default or is there a way to assign them?
Thanks again!!
>Does this mean I actually have to record the filtered format drum data onto the YFDS track (strike)?
No. The dragged out MIDI is also affected.
>Also you say that there are wraps for inout folder………
>are these set by default or is there a way to assign them?
Once you import a folder, either from the menu>AddPath or by dragging
one onto EZplayer, you will get a pop-up that allows you to edit stuff.
You can return to that pop-up by right clicking that folder once it
sits in the browser. Imported folders have a slightly different color, btw.

Ah right!
I tried that and it worked. It doesn’t do same when a single midi file is dragged in.
Just a thought………… would it be possible for me to set the midi input of EZ player to the midi feed coming from my trigger I/O output then output the data stream from EZ player with a wrap applied to say addictive drums enabling me to record the altered data into the addictive drum instrument track…….. EZ player would act as a midi keyboard layout changer in REAL TIME………. changing what it receives on input and outputting in the format of my choice without having to drag files in to browser……….it alters what it receives on input…………changes it and outputs………?
I can use the learn function in the plugins or make a special midi map for the various plugins on the trigger I/O and save them as presets anyway but just curious.
Would you happen to know if it is possible to use EZ player as a filter like this in real time?
Thanks again for all your help!!
Eugene.
>I tried that and it worked. It doesn’t do same when a single midi file is dragged in.
No. Any MIDI file that is dragged in from outside of EZplayer needs to
be in our own GM-extended mapping for it to work. If it is not then
you should add the folder as described.
>Just a thought………… midi input of EZ player…..
Honestly, I don’t really remember whether EZplayer Pro has a MIDI input or
not. I am guessing it hasn’t. Anyway, depending on the host you are using
you may end up with excessive latency when routing MIDI between plugs
llike that.
Hmm, actually, it has a MIDI input but I think that is used to control
the playing of the tracks. Think of it as a ‘drum machine’ controlled via MIDI.
