I have no personal knowledge if Cubase SX1 will work with EZdrummer or not but I can only recommend using a supported version of Cubase (version 4 or higher).

IIRC Cubase 1 simply does not allow drag and drop to its tracks from outside the program or from a VST, so, besides us offering no support for it, it is very much a host that limits considerably the usefulness of our products. So yes upgrading or switching to another host is pretty much the only way forward I’m afraid.
