I have a ddrum4 and the alesis I/O. The Alesis is ok but comes no where near the ddrum4 in triggering capabilities. I haven’t used the roland but they do tend to be quite good
as well. You may be disapointed with the Alesis on the snare where you want accurate triggering

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

What are my options to expand the kit? Upgrading to the TD-9 controller or are there other Trigger I/O’s out there?

There’s a TMI called Megadrum that has the reputation of being much, much better than the Alesis. They only sell the parts and a schematic, so you have to be pretty handy with a soldering iron to make one. Lots of features that the Alesis doesn’t have, and you can have up to 56 trigger inputs or something like that. Visit http://www.V-drums.com and do a search for Megadrum in the DIY section, and you’ll find everything you need to know about this. But the above is right; a TD-9 would be vastly superior to the Alesis.
