I posted this in the cakewalk forum and thought I’d try here also. I’m using Sonar HS7XL.
I want to use EZdrummer with a regular kit and a Latin kit but it gets screwed up when I try to set up 2 drum maps. I have downloaded the maps from toontack with no problem.
I open my ezdrummers by Insert Soft Synth>vstplugins>ezdrummer. Then I select Midi Source, First synth out and Synth property page. OK so far. I can get 2 ezdrummers. One I set up for Standard kit the other for Latin percussion. I can DnD grooves into both and play them as expected. One standard drums one latin percussion.
When I set the output of the first kit to EZdrummer standard kit drum map they both play OK and i can see the drum map when I View>PianoRoll for the Standard kit. When I set up the output for the 2nd drummer as the Lain drum map it populates with the Latin names but when I play it, it plays sounds from the standard kit like crash cymbals not congas. I know the map is good cause if i just load a Latin kit and point it to the Latin drum map all is fine. So there must be a trick to using 2 drum maps that I’m unaware of.
I read the “EZdrummer Tip for Sonar” and see in Tip #7: setting up EZdrummer Drum Maps the following :
“So you can set up a drum map to feed several instances of EZdrummer. For example you might have one instance with the Pop Rock Kit and one instance of the Latin Percussion EZX in a project. You can set up a drum map to simulate the GM synth setup where you have a drumkit as well as Latin instruments. The notes that relate to a drum kit will be routed to EZD>Pop Rock and the notes that relate to Latin Percussion will be routed to the Latin EZX. I’m not going to cover this aspect unless someone requests it as it’s more of a SONAR feature than it is an EZdrummer feature.”
Can someone tell me how to do this? Is the trick to just use one all inclusive drum map? How do you do that?

This means ,If done right ,the two kits midi should not overlap.
So its in Sonars’s midi setup,as the latin percussion should not overlap the Kick, snr, toms, cyms of a normal kit.
Cant do this inside EZ , SD2 has more Midi layout options.
Got it to work.
I went to the Drum Map Manager for ezdrummer2 (the Latin Kit) and redirected the Out Port of every Instrument it to the 2nd instance of EZdrummer which of course was The Latin Kit and it works fine now. I also discovered I could have opened the Piano roll view for the Latin Kit and changed the out port there on an Instrument by Instrument basis. Saving some time cause it would only effect instruments used in the groove.
