loading EZDrummer uses about 1/2 GB of RAM. Can I prevent loops from being loaded, if they are a big chunk of RAM useage? I’m getting drop-outs and I think it’s due to RAM (I have 4GB).
Thanks.
The samples themselves are what take up the majority of the RAM, not the MIDI groove “loops”.
I have 3.25 GB here and don’t have issues using EZdrummer (WinXP, 32-bit, Reaper — it would be helpful if you had your system details filled out in your profile here).
The MB readout on EZdrummer should be an accurate portrayal of the actual RAM used. With the default Pop/Rock kit, this is just shy of 270 MB used.
In Reaper, I can confirm that number in the Performance Meter (View > Performance Meter [Ctrl-Alt-P
Also, if you’re not using a particular kit piece in EZdrummer, you can set that individual kit piece to “None” to decrease the RAM footprint. Otherwise… you just have to RAM budget.
Also also… this is one of those cases where the upgrade to Superior has some better options. In particular, the Cached mode in Superior only loads samples into RAM as they’re used.
