I apologize if this is an old/repeated topic, I haven’t yet found an answer by searching the forum.
I purchased EZDrummer based on the simplicity of use, the crazy number of beat variations and mostly how awesome the drums sound. However I wanted more choices for the cymbals, especially more crash and ride options. I grabbed the dfh add-on based on the sheer number of cymbals the kit has, hoping to find a set that I loved. As it turns out, I much the sound of the kick and snare from the original EZD kit however I would like to supplement it with some cymbal sounds from dfh.
Is there a simple way to do this, add cymbals from dfh to the EZD default kit? Can the kit be expanded or is it just a matter of replacing sounds?
thanks all…
You would have to load 2 separate instances of EZD and load the drum kit in one and load another (with the DFH EZX loaded) with just the cymbals.

hmm.. that sounds complicated especially if I am creating a song on the fly, trying different fills and grooves, etc. I would have to duplicate every change I made.
Can sound files be over-written from one drum kit to another? Primarily I am looking to add or expand the sounds of the cymbals in the basic kit.. or, maybe it would be easier to copy and rename the kick and snare samples from the EZD kit into the dfh kit. Can this be done?
Short answer: No
A bit longer answer: Wouldn’t work at all, please do not try anything like it. The expansions have different amount ofmicrophones, instruments, samples per instrument, etc. You would only break operation.
The only way to load drums from one expansion and cymbals from another in one plugin instance, is in EZdrummer’s big brother Superior 2, which gives you control over the difference in microphones as well.

Sounds complicated but it really is not.
Program the midi/playing as per normal with just one instance until finished.
Only then open a 2nd instance with your just favourite cymbals but just cymbals only and no drums .
then back at the first instance select “none” or unload for individual cymbals (takes about 10 seconds),
This whole loading and unloading part should only take a minute ,then
Copy/Drag the exact same midi from one to to and your done for final playbacks and bouncing ,whatever you do.
Also because Ez has an on/off simplified bleed switching regime on your rooms and mainly over heads, you get the benefit of turning up the drums overheads and room completely with out changing your cymbal mix, thats why i used to it,for more control of the mix .Thusly giving you a cymbal only mike to play with.
ok thanks Juicy, I’ll play around with this tonight. Just so I understand:
1) Open EZD, select kit, load to track one
2) Create my song the normal way, drag and drop intro, verse, pre-chorus, fills etc
3) Open dfh, select kit (one with cymbals I like), load to track two
4) Copy midi from track one to track two
5) Remove cymbals from kit in track one
6) Remove everything but cymbals from kit in track two
Is that about right? Is that about it?

Would the Superior Drummer 2.0 Upgrade give me this functionality?
Slightly OT, what is the difference between the SD 2.0 Upgrade and the SD 2.0 Crossgrade?
The S2 Upgrade if for upgrading from the original DFHS to S2 (discontinued). The S2 Crossgrade is for crossgrading from EZdrummer to S2.
In S2, you would just load any extra cymbals as X-drums. See this video for a short tutorial on X-drums in S2. The video talks about layering sounds but it also touches on X-drums and routing:

Dang…. the upgrade is $39 on Amazon, the Crossgrade (which I thought meant cross-platform) is a whole lot more!

Is that about right?
Yes,
Thats giving you some SD like feature/control at an EZ price
I used to also load up a 3rd instance just for snare( or kick),even from the same EZx,then u could have super roomy snare without super roomy kick drum and still not affect my prefered cymbals and cymbal mix.

I’m pretty sure that’s because the “upgrade” is essentially upgrading you from Superior 1 to Superior 2, so it’s within the same product line. Whereas the crossgrade is taking you from EZDrummer to Superior 2, which is a different product line. At least, I think that’s what’s going on here.

That makes sense.. thanks! Now to wait and see if it goes on sale for $149 again, then I’ll grab it.
