Hi,
I’m on Windows (XP and 7) and was wondering if anyone used any other tools in prior to using DrumTracker to filter out, say, hi hats from an audio file that contained other drums. Any software recommendations for this? Any suggestions or thoughts in conjunction with this?
Yes,
but not more special than the EQ’s at hand in my DAW.
What you need to keep in mind when filtering is that you want to augment the part of the sound that will best trigger the hits in time.
As an example, you can use a LP filter to filter out anything but the ‘oomph’ in kick but that will not necessarily be the best trigger, since the transient will be a lot earlier and on time than the ‘oomph’.
If you want to go more “special”, you can try to use a noise reduction plugin with a Learn function, to learn what is to be considered as noise and filtered out.

John
