Hi,
I,m totally lost now I’ve been trying out all diffrent configurations for my system.
PC with enough CPU and RAM power.
Windows 7 x64 wich has great support for earlier versions of windows.
I have uninstalled and installed EZ drummer several times with diffrent angles of troubleshooting.
No matter what I do the system totaly collapses when using the EZ drummer. I just use one track for guitar, one track for EZ drummer and a clicktrack sometimes I doesn’t even come so far so that I can record the guitar part. mostly it crashes after a few playbacks.
If I can’t get this to work I’ll just have to return this great package of drums to the retailer.
Please any suggestions?
Which exact version of Pro Tools (including CS) are you using?
The exact hardware spec?
Which version number is reported in the EZdrummer plugin interface?
@ which sample rate are you working your Session(s)?
What other plugins are present in the Session(s)?
Any other applications running at the same time? Anti-viral stuff?
BR,
John

M-Box 3rd gen Pro Tool 8 LE (8.0.4) can’t find any info on CS (It’s the latest release)
Intel Core i7 950 3070 MHz (4 cores),
Gigabyte motherboard (X58A-UD 3R), Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
RAM 6GB (3 x 2GB modules Corsair)
HD WDC WD10EALX-009BA0 (1TB)
Radeon HD 6800 Series
OS Windows 7 Pro x64
AV Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5002.333 (x64)
EZ drummer is reporting version 1.2.1 in the down right corner of the interface. I’ve been doing the 32-bit/64-bit upgrade.
If you mean the sample rate used in Pro Tools Hardware setup it is 44.1kHz
When setting up a new session in Pro Tools all parameters are default ie. Bit Depth 24 Bit, Audio file type: BWF(.WAW), Sample Rate 44.1kHz.
I’m new to this so the only thing present in the mix is EZ drummer, no other plugins. 1 drum track and 1 guitar track.
Best regards
Magnus
Well,
your computer and your Session settings should cause no such problems unless you have faulty RAM.
There is an 8.0.4 CS2 update available at:
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=378391
While it does fix some crashing problems, it *shouldn’t* affect your setup but you never know…
You could try setting your Playback Engine to:
256 samples H/W Buffer size
3 RTAS processors
and do not optimize for streaming samples.
Since Pro Tools isn’t a 64-bit application, the RTAS version of EZdrummer is not 64-bit, BTW.
I.e. even though you have 6GB RAM, Pro Tools can likely only access ≈2GB for itself and its plugins.
Is it possible for you to turn off the AV software while running Pro Tools?

John

Hi,
I’ve updated to Pro Tools 8.0.4(cs2) and reinstalled EZdrummer and dfh. I also tried to install the update for dfh but it did’nt want to.
I changed the settings in playback engine to: (old settings)
H/W Buffer Size: 256 Samples (512 Samples)
Host Processors: 3 (8)
Optimized for streaming content were already unchecked.
I’ll give it a try and get back with the results.
Host Processors: 3 (8)
OK, you have 4 dual-cores, set it to 7 then.
What was the error message when you tried updating the dfh EZX?

Ok I’ll try that.
Feels that I was getting closer to a sollution now I could play with the EZdrummer for 30 min then came the crash.
It is an windows installer error and it’s presented in Swedish. But it says something like this “Cannot install this update due to the correction file might been made for another version or the update is missing. Check that the program to be updated is installed and that you have the right correction file”
I took a snap shot at the failing point and it seems to fail when trying to extract the “PatchStd.msp”
I’ll try this last tip of yours and give it a try
OK, have you installed the Full dfh EZX Installer (IIRC ≈500MB) before applying the dfh EZX update?

Yes,
But that seems to be my least problem. During the last 5 hours I’ve been installing a copy of window 7 pro 32bit version just to see if it might be root of all evil.
1. Installed Windows with all drivers neccesary – ok
2. Installed Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 – ok (system works fine Pro Tools works with included drums)
3. Installed Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 (cs2) update – ok (system still stable with drums running from Pro Tools)
4. Installed EZ drummer (complete version dowloaded from toontrack site)
5. Installed the 32bit updater.
6. Started Pro Tools and created a blank session with one instrument track, hooked that one up with EZ drummer and it asked for authorization code. Me entered code and pressed enter……. crashed big time.
Started everything up one more timee and changed the playback settings:
H/W Buffer Size: 256 Samples (512 Samples)
Host Processors: 7 (8)
Fired up Pro Tools and launched EZ drummer . . . . . . . . . 20 seconds later hard disk just dies again.
Is there in any way that EZ drummer won’t work with Pro Tools in windows 7 environment, I’ve read something about XP SP3?
Hi,
rest assured EZdrummer works well in the Win 7 environment.
I have probed my colleagues and you have a unique problem that unfortunately points to some kind of hardware problem, most likely physical RAM.
Do you have the possibility to run some kind of RAM check or system stress test? Or just run with one RAM stick at a time?

John

Hi,
Now I have tried the following.
1. Bought a new harddisk 7200rpm, did a fresh installation of windows xp sp3 (no AV or disturbunig programs) only drivers.
2. Installed Prottols LE 8.0.4 with cs2 update
3. Installaed EZdrummer and dfh
crash….. started up again….crash.
Did a RAM test with a tool called “mem test” which gave me no errors (memory seems fine).
I tried to remove 2 out of 3 2GB ram sticks, started everything up and crash when running the drums. I’ve tested every ram stick separatley and they gave all the same results.
The computer indicates no errors in logfiles and works fine over all. I can’t stress it to fail unless doing the combination mentioned so many times (PT & EZ).
I’m thinking
Well,
I’m sorry to hear that but unfortunately this points even more to some kind of hardware problem.
You have tried 2 completely different environments with fresh installs and get the same result.
You are far from the only Pro Tools LE user on either OS, so it is not a general problem with the combination of PT and EZD.
I will try to come up with some other way to troubleshoot.

John

Hi,
There might be light in the end of the tunnel after all. I’ve done some serious stress testing of the CPU and memory after I did a BIOS upgrade (didn’t even know what the changes were).
But after that I’ve been trying to have the computer to fail with no success and that is a good thing.
Thank for helping me on the right track in the troubleshooting and I hope this work even in the future because I’ve alredy planing to get some more plugin packs like “Metalheads”
