I looked around and didn’t find a definitive answer to this one, so here goes –
I used to use SONAR a while back for writing my music. When it came time to add the drum track, I just plugged the MIDI IN into my UNO USB 1X1 from my Roland TD-8 module, set the instruments to the TD10.ins file, and took off laying down every tom, cymbal, and rim trigger I could hit. It worked wonderfully.
Now then, here comes Reaper, and Studio One Pro, and my outdated SONAR doesn’t look like it’s worth the price of updating. So, a new DAW, a new learning curve.
Question: Can I plug in the TD-8 or TD-10 module, set it as a ‘new keyboard’ or input device, and get the same easy MIDI operation from EZDrummer (or SP2.0) such as I had in SONAR? No mapping, no fiddling with EQs and comps. I do all of that through the drum module.

Yes you can. Reaper is extremely easy.. super cheap… no maps required. I upgraded here from Tracktion 3… no regrets.
