Whats up guys?
This will probably be filed under “questions long forgotten” but I’m new to ezdrummer so bare with me. It is probably real simple – just trying to get my keyboard (older box – ALESIS Quadra synth) to play/trigger ezdrummer when I strike a key. That’s it!
I have my Quadra synth going MIDI out to my Midi 2×2 sport (IN-A) and from my sport I have it going USB to my computer. I am running Cubase Studio 5 on it and in there I bring up Ezdrummer. I know MIDI info is being sent because I see my sport respond with a green light when I hit my keys on the board and in turn I see the the transport panel in Cubase reflect a solid signal in the MIDI indicator column. I am not hearing anything on the kit sound off though. I noticed by default ALL MIDI Inputs come up and my VST instrument is Ezdrummer. I can hear the kit sound off when I strike any of the toms, cymbals, etc, with the mouse clicks but that is the only way I hear it. What am I missing?
Any help or insight anyone could give would be greatly appreciated!

Is the monitor button active on the MIDI/Instrument Track?

Make sure the option ‘MIDI Thru Active’ is activated in the Preferences dialog (MIDI page).

Does the MIDI Sport appear in the MIDI In menu (the one that you say reads ‘ALL MIDI Inputs‘)?

Scott –
‘MIDI Thru Active’ is activated (checked) on the MIDI page and yes, the MIDI sport does appear.
I have actually toggled it to be IN-A MidiSport 2×2 in this area and still no success.
Underneath that is the ezdrummer output routing.
OK.
How about some more info on the system you’re running?
What OS (XP, Vista, Win7, 32-bit or 64-bit)?
Cubase Studio 5 32-bit or 64-bit?
EZdrummer 32-bit or 64-bit?
If you’re using a 64-bit environment (Win7 64-bit, C5 64-bit, EZD 64-bit) are you using supported drivers for the MIDI Sport that are 64-bit?

Is EZdrummer the only VSTi that you have this problem with?
Scott Sibley - Toontrack

Ezdrummer is the only VSTi I use.
I will occasionally use samples here and there but thats about it.
Are there any VSTi that are included with Cubase that you can try and see if you get the same or different results? This will help determine if there is an issue with EZD or with some routing/setting issue with Cubase.

You’re right
I did in fact have a keyboard from Computer Music installed that
I tried named CRONOX3. All the same symptoms. I can see it as
an output device, I can hear it when clicking with the mouse, but
I can’t control it through my board.
Yes – it is definitely a routing/setting issue within Cubase. None of my VSTi are controllable
via keyboard.
What course of action should I take to resolve?
Thanks
Well, I’ve run out of ideas. You seem to have everything setup as I would have it but still don’t have success. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more of a help on your problem.
I would suggest contacting Steinberg support here:
http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/support_contact.html
or post a question over on the Cubase forum:
Make sure you provide all info you’ve provided here and the different things you’ve tried.
