Loading EZD in Reaper is as simple as:

    – Click ‘Track’ (or ‘Insert’) in Reaper
    – Click ‘Insert Virtual Instrument on new track’
    – Click ‘Instrument’ in far left column (should be already selected)
    – Click ‘VSTi: DFH Sampler (Toontrack) (16 out)’
    – Click ‘OK’
    – A pop up menu will load and ask if you want Reaper to build 16 outputs. For now click ‘Cancel’ instead of ‘OK’. This will get you started.
    – EZdrummer will open

Select the DFH EZX from the library menu in the EZD interface. Then, to create an empty MIDI item to create your drums in, select ‘Insert’ and ‘New MIDI Item’.

The only other thing you’ll probably want to do in load a MIDI map so you can see what MIDI notes corresponds to what drum kit piece in EZD. You can check the http://stash.reaper.fm/ and search the ‘MIDI Drum Maps’ category for user contributed MIDI maps for EZD/DFH EZX. These MIDI maps can be loaded in the MIDI editor window under ‘File’ and ‘Load note names from file…’

Haven’t used the stash much for things other than skins.  Just uploaded all of my notemaps there thanks to this post! 🙂

Thanks Jeff! I did notice a couple of other MIDI maps on the stash for Toontrack products but yours are…superior.

    Thank for making them available.

Thank you very much! Much appreciated. It sounds pretty simple like you said. Lets see if I can’t screw it up. I’ll let ya know how it goes.

So I have Reaper but when I click “Insert, Insert Virtual Instrument on New Track”, It comes up to Instruments but DFH and EZD aren’t listed under the VST’s. My Reason 4 is but not DFH. What’d I screw up?

Also, what will I need to be able to record my guitar tracks with Reaper? I dont want to use direct so I’d be recording through my little Line 6 combo amp. How would I go about doing that?

Make sure that, in Reaper, you’re looking for “Dfh Sampler” (for some reason, Reaper uses that name instead of the EZDrummer name).
If it’s definitely not showing up, make sure that Reaper’s scanning the correct folder where you installed EZ Drummer.
    In Reaper…
    Options > Preferences (or Ctrl-P)
    Plug-Ins > VST
…and you should find the “VST plug-in paths” listed there.  Mine, for example, looks like this…
    C:Program Filesjamstix2;C:Program FilesVSTPlugins
…since most of my plugins (including the Toontrack stuff) are in C:Program FilesVSTPlugins, but I also have JamStix installed elsewhere so I have to tell Reaper where to find it.  The “ezdrummer.dll” file is what Reaper is looking for.

If you’re pretty sure you have that set up correctly, and it’s still not showing up, write back and if you can, provide some screenshots of these areas — we might catch something you may’ve missed.

If you don’t want to record your guitar direct, then the only other option I know of is to use a mic.  I usually do all of my guitars direct, so I’m afraid I can’t be much help there.

Thanks very much, I finally got DFH working in Reaper. You’re right, it’s listed as DFH Sampler. I have a Presonus Audiobox I’m trying to figure out how to use to mic up my amp. No clue how to hook it up in Reaper. I would go direct if my amp had the capability. But I usually record through a mic anyway in the studio. I prefer the sound to direct recording.

Got the Presonus USB working finalllllly. Now how can I upload my Reason tracks into Reaper? Anyone have any tips? It’ll play in Reaper, it just won’t record or show that it’s in Reaper.

I’m not terribly familiar with Reason, but it sounds like you’ll want to look up ReWire.
A quick google search for “Reason Reaper ReWire” (thassalotta Rs!) brings up what I believe are some good hits on the Cockos Reaper forum.
I’d bet that, if you already have the ReWire things hooked up, you may just be missing arming the track for recording, which is as simple as pressing the red “ar” button on the track you want to record in Reaper.  When the extra recording armed interface bits pop out on that track, I’ll usually also press the speaker icon button to monitor the recording.  Right-clicking these buttons gives even more options.  Hope that helps!

Thanks! All I had to do was cut and past into notepad and paste the file in the Reaper Media folder and voila!
