I went to Obedia, they asked me to post this here. It’s definitely a bug in the Midi playback code. I have recorded a screen movie to show you the problem. Please note. I have an Apple 30 Inch HD Cinema Display so the movie is large. If your using a smaller screen, simply scroll over to the left and pay attention to the preview drop down menu as I go through it and you can hear my resulting preview sounds. They range from sound out of only the left speaker to God Awful screeching to a pleasant correctly working cymbal. So some work, others do not and sometimes, I might be working with this program and I get NO sound at all on preview. I have to shut it down and re-lauch it to get it to work.
I have also had Toontrack Solo running with Superior 2.02 running and my selected library and I have actually had the preview activate the sounds on the library loaded in superior which I thought was great. I would like to keep that function or option on tap.
The computer is set up having used my Lexicon IONIX 810S I/O for the Midi Device in the preference settings for Midi device. I have changed my I/O unit. I also have an Apogee Ensemble so I hooked it up and in that case I had no option generated from the Apogee device in the Midi device selection window under Preferences. I have activated the IAC driver in the Midi audio section under utilities and made sure that was active. I can see that the IAC device is now selected in Midi device under preferences with the Apogee Ensemble in use.
I’ve tried as many things as I can think of. I ran a utility program called Maintance 3.8 which I downloaded from the Apple website. Here is what this utility program says it does:
What does Maintenance do?
Maintenance runs the various tools built into OS X to clean and maintain your system.
Repair Permissions – OS X uses permissions to determine which programs and folders a user can access. Sometimes these permissions get modified, causing strange behavior. By repairing your permissions, you can fix or prevent issues while using your machine. Permissions get changed largely when you install new programs. Its suggested that you repair permissions before and after installing any software.
Verify Preference Files – OS X programs store preferences in XML files. Sometimes these files become corrupt, leading to undesirable results. You should verify your preferences whenever you notice unexpected behavior or something crashes.
What does Maintenance do?
Periodic Cleanup – OS X has certain tasks set up to run at certain times (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) to help keep things running. Most people do not leave there computers on for a long period of time, so these tasks do not run. It is a good idea if you tend to have your computer off at night to run these tasks on your own.
Update Prebindings – Prebinding allows applications to launch faster. After 10.3, your prebindings are updated every time you run an Apple installer. You should update your prebindings if you go a long time without running an Apple installer.
Clear Cache Files – Cache files are temporary data files that help OS X and its applications work faster. Sometimes these files build up, take up space, and go corrupt. Clearing your Cache files is not a general Maintenance task. It is more used for freeing up space and troubleshooting a troublesome program. Please be warned that if you clear your cache you may lose certain custom items on your system.
Update Locate, Whatis and LaunchServices Databases – These databases contain information on your system. If something is not right, you will experience unexplained problems. It is recommended that you update these databases weekly.
Rebuild Spotlight Index – The Spotlight Index is basically a database with locations and names of your files. Things get corrupt, lost or moved. Rebuilding your Spotlight Index will take some time.
General Instructions
Maintenance is very simple to use. You can store the application anywhere on your system and to run it, just double click the file. To select multiple actions, hold down the Apple key. The actions will run in the background and you will be notified when they are done. It is suggested that you restart your computer after using Maintenance. You now have the option to schedule iCal to run a modified Maintenance script so you do not have to remember. More on this feature in the
“Automatic Maintenance” readme file.
