I wanted to share some really simple things I learned. Pardon me if they are so beginner, I just find that sometimes these little things are overlooked and make it really hard to get into.
OK, if you load up EZdrummer. Go insert a new midi item.
This will put a blank item similar to if you are using EZdrummer’s grooves.
Now for me, I’m using something to record and trigger from. So I was having a hardtime to edit these notes, add new ones etc.
Right away, double click your midi item, or right click and select open in the editor.
From within the editor, go:
View; Diamonds- Drum Mode
Now you can move the drum hits/ notes around. This was a big thing for me, as by default it seems more geared towards piano/ keyboards.
I find alot of these programs throw you in expecting you already know alot. At least it seems like that for me.
Another thing I found really useful, still under the view menu:
View; Mode Named Notes
Now instead of showing the piano roll, you get numbers for the drum hits. So you now know that 34 and 35 are always kick drum.
On the bottom, is how hard (velocity) the drums are hit. After clicking and selecting a drum hit you can click that green updown bar thing on the bottom. Bigger = harder. You will also notice when you do this, that the note has a line in it that moves too.
If this info helps one other person then I will be happy. I wish there were some guides geared towards absolute beginners.
Like those dummie books. 😀
