I’m using EZDrummer with Sonar. I can get drum sounds, but I cant figure out how to get a drum audio track out of EZD so I can mix the whole song down. If I select an audio track to use EZD as an input, the record button disappears. I have several midi drum tracks that output to EZD, and I can hear them. And there appears to be some kind of EZD tracks that dont have anything, midi or audio, on them that EZD inserted in the project. I’ve looked at other posts and they all seem to skip over how its done. Please tell me exactly how its done in sonar in a “for dummies” manner. Thanks.
In Sonar it’s best to open EzDrummer via the Synth rack. This will set up your ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ automatically. Synth rack has options accessed through an options dialogue box in Synth rack. You need to check the ‘midi source’ box and you get one track of midi (it’s all you need for the midi part). Now you need to set up the audio/synth track(s). You can have the EzDrummer kit all going through one audio track by checking ‘first synth audio output’ or you can have different parts of the kit going through their own channel by checking ‘all synth audio outputs (stereo)’. If you choose this second option (you will once familiar with it) it will automatically create 8 audio tracks – then you need to alter the ‘mixer’ in EzDrummer to ‘multichannel’ – you just go the EzDrummer mixer and where it says ‘output’ it has to the right ‘TRK1’ – right click and check ‘multichannel’ – and your kit will automatically go to the different audio tracks you set up. EzDrummer defaults to 7 tracks.
One midi track holds all your midi data, which you can edit and alter but this has no sound and that’s why you have an audio/synth track(s) in order to hear the sounds. These audio tracks can have effects etc applied to them.
I’m still lost.
I have a project with midi tracks set to output to EZD. It plays fine. I want to make audio tracks so I can mix the drums with the other instruments to make a wav file of the song. Here is what I did to try to follow your directions:
View, synth rack – brings up EZD synth
top of the synth window – insert soft synth options, I select
– all synth audio out, MIDI source, synth property page, synth track folder
hit ok – nothing happens
open EZD synth, mixer, set output to multichannel, the channels on the mixer all change the label to say trk1, trk2, etc, but noting else happens, no audio tracks in Sonar.
There are already some tracks in the Sonar project that EZD obviously made, but they do absolutely nothing, and they have no midi or audio in them.
How do I actually make audio tracks that I can mix with my other audio tracks so I can use EZD sounds on a CD?
In Sonar, Edit>Select>All
Then
File>Export>Audio
You can select a location where you want the audio file to be saved, as well as the bit depth and sampling rate. Sonar converts your drum tracks and other MIDI tracks to audio on mixdown.
You can select By Time if you want to (to convert just part of the tune to audio) and you can mute tracks during mixdown too if you want.

I already know how to mix down audio tracks. I do that all the time. You cant mix down midi tracks to audio. Only the audio tracks will mix down. I tried it with the EZD tracks just in case VST might be different, but there was no drum sound on the mixdown. Although I am very familiar with mixing down audio tracks, I am thinking VST may behave differently and I just have something set wrong. It sounds like what you are saying is that VST midi tracks will mix down to audio (which I have a hard time believing).
How do I mix down to CD so that the EZD tracks will be included?
How can I make an audio track from EZD?
thanks!
