I plan to record acoustic drums and convert to SD3 using Tracker.
I know separate close mic tracks are the best so I plan to have a preamp channel for kick, snare, hihat.
For toms and cymbals, can I do more generic placement to pick up the hits? i.e. one mic for 3 toms and 1 for a cymbal that I can re-assign to another cymbal later.
Also, should I try to close mic a ride cymbal to pick up the nuanced ride/ping playing?
This will determine if I should buy a 4 or 8 channel preamp to record.
